Does anyone load these for .223 ? How do they stack up as compared to Hornady vmax etc ...in terms of accuracy ?

using a generic bulk 223 recipe, managed to get about 2MOA out of my xcr with them. Summer plan is to use my RCBS loadmaster and dial these in. Where you buying from?

Budget has some listed. I was hoping the might perform out of my savage bolt gun at the range. I get great accuracy from the name brands but thought these may be a cheaper alternative.

Tried a couple of different charges under them; haven't found a load that works worth writing down here yet - will try to remember this thread if something comes together (bought 250 of them or so, so have a few more range trips to go...)

I wouldn't compare them to Hornady or Sierra BTHP's
They would compare to Hornady 55gr FMJ but not as accurate.

IMHO they're good for AR plinking ammo but currently overpriced unless you don't have anything to shoot.

Lake City FMJ is much less accurate than the Hornady FMJ. Only reason I would get them again is if there is no Hornady available.

Something to think about.....................

WHY would the U.S. Army at Lake City Ammunition plant sell bullets?

Answer, because these bullets didn't meet military quality standards.

You can buy new Lake City cartridge cases for the same reason, they failed quality standards.

If they met mil-spec requirements they would be used to make military ammunition.

These bullets and cases are bought at scrap prices and resold to the public. You have been warned. :slap:

P.S. Use the green tipped bullets, they kill Zombies quicker. :ar15:

The green tip bullets contains Kryptonite and will even stop Superman, the red tips only contain Tabasco sauce which just causes a severe burning sensation.

Lol biged, as far as I know, zmax bullets are just vmax bullets with a different color tip, if so, they are a great bargain for vmax bullets!!

Edit: I just noticed the cannelure, do all zmax bullets have one? If so, looks like they might not be vmax's after all!

Damn I bought 1000 of them. Havent loaded any yet but they are definitely longer than my Hornady 55 gr FMJBT which actually shoot pretty good. But I geuss for 16 cents each shipped theyre not the worst deal around. FWIW the 6000 cases of Hornady 55 gr FMJBT work out to about 9.5 cents each going off Hornady's USA site. I might go that route.

Problem there, is a) you cant buy them out of the US, and (B) you're going to have a hell of a time trying to find them right now with the schenanigans down in the US. If you do find them, let me know!!!

Varget was the best powder I found for the Lake City 55fmj and it would go about 1 moa in three of my 223's with 1-12" twist, set @ nominal length. Compared to the vmax that I group at .3 moa with the same rifles, the lake ity is ok for the cost if just plinking.

I bought a box of 500 50gr Zmax that do not have the cannelure

I have not loaded those Lake City bullets, but the Hornadys have shot extremely well out of every 5.56 I have tried. I think they are the best fmj's out there.

My local shop is always stocked up on Hornady bullets, best selection in town and pricing is excellent. They're a very well connected business so if anyone can get it they can. But to share my source... Now that's gonna cost ya :p

the Lake Citys were decent for blasting and short range use when they were $100.00 per K shipped at $140.00 shipped they are not worth it. They are rejects I am just finishing a 10,000 rd run, it is amazing how badly formed the boattails are on a lot of bullets. I am switching to Privi or Hornady.

Budget shooter supply, they are now 160, so I would definitely pay a bit extra for decent bullets. He has the Hornady softpoints for 165, so I think I would go with those over the Lake City.
