after an "interesting" evening at the range with my glock 22, ruger 1911, and sig 1911, I've decided that the ruger sr1911 is going to get a 400 CorBon barrel so that I can put my stupid-heavy handloads into that - for fun.

where do I get me one of these barrels? standard gov't length, most likely with a bushing to match cuz i'm not sure if I can reuse the sr1911's existing busing.

Cool!!!
What about this?? http://460rowland.com/

actually my shooting buddy recommended that first, but since that needs compensators and new slides to work properly, it's a bit much and probably nearly impossible to find in Canada. the 400 CorBon seems like a barrel swap only, which is simpler - assuming I can actually FIND said barrel in this country!

although yeah, that Rowland has the potential of way more muzzle energy. the glock 22 was seeing 550 ft-lb of muzzle energy last night (3 inch fireball, easily), so I doubt i'd enjoy shooting something that spits out 1,000-plus for more than a mag. figure the 400 CorBon would be just as stout as that glock load I had, in a tougher platform.

like the "poor man's 10mm" - which is basically right on target!

Try fusion firearms, they ship here and have everything 1911

google found it/them, email sent to confirm that it can be done! price seems pretty good assuming there's no other export fees or whatnot. I've never bought any firearms-related stuff from USA, so I've no idea what's a GO and what's a NO-GO.

thanks! :)

I had one a few years ago. Put in the 400 CorBon barrel, 22lb recoil spring and that's it.
Ready to go. You can form the brass from regular 45 brass except it is not strong
enough for hot loads. Dies are available, Starline sells 400 CorBon brass .
.40 Cal heads are easy to find.
Regular mags work fine.

There are barrels available in the U.S. PM me if you want a name or 2.

460 rowland offers a barrel compensator kit for $300, you don't need a new slide. Look into the 400 super, that looks promising.
