15 round group from prone no support except my arms. 100 yards and very windy, all 15 shots within or touching the 2 inch ring. Ammo was a mix of Chinese copper washed stuff and some Winchester 150gr hollow points

Rifle is bone stock except a walnut stock and I welded the op-rod guide. Not to bad for iron sights and a windy day!

That's a pass :))) All with a stock gun too :)
Still waiting to see some groups from the guys with the "Gucci" rigs, maybe this will get them going.

Yup,,she's a keeper....good shooting.

Try shooting some 168 gr bullets, it will only get better.

Tell me more about this>>

Simple, instead of taking off the op-rod guide and preening the barrel like most guys I just welded mine on. I'm a welder by trade so I was confident but it isn't reccomended to do this. Some guys op-rod guides are nice and tight from factory and others are loose. It's nesssary to have a tight one to have consistent accuracy.

Hey, nice group! Glad you are having fun and it's working for you. :D

So did yer #### fall off ? :nest:

The way a few certain people are around this forum, you would think that all our Norc guns are gonna blow up and result in #### loss!

Cheers,
Barney

I'm very impressed with your groups ArmyMan with the Norinco 762. I find that 3-3.5MOA is all that I can pull on 10 shot groups stock except for gas shimming with the copper washed. I'm wondering if I tack that op rod guide on mine, it will tighten up alot, seeing it appears to have done wonders to yours. How did you secure it, small tack centered both sides?

Nice marksmanship as well you have there prone unsupported over irons, you are a M-14 Rifleman for sure, I can manage approx 8" 10- shot groups at 200meters on B-27 reduced targets using the 3-3.5MOA ammo, I'm starting to like the consistency I'm getting myself prone, and would like to have your MOA inherent accuracy for a possible 4-5" group prone unsupported at 200.

Great shooting, keep the old school Battle Rifle marksmanship alive.

Thanks for the compliment haha. I had the op rod guide jb welded on originally but the jb weld kept breaking from recoil. But I actually ran a small pass in with a buddies tig welder just on one side of the guide. In retrospect, I would have rather just put 2 tacks centered on each Side of the guide as I dont believe there much force pushing side to side on the guide. Obviously they key to welding on a barrel is to keep the heat as low as possible and I believe 2 hot tacks is the way too go. With the welder turned up hot and a real quick tack you can almost touch the tack right away from the heat dissipating.

Sorry, but I don't follow you. The group shown in post #1 is, by my fancy measuring method of holding a ruler to my monitor, 3.5 MOA. You say you are getting 8" groups at 200m, which is pretty much exactly 3.5 MOA. So how is it an improvement to make your rifle shoot like TheArmyMan204's rifle when both are 3.5 MOA guns?

You are right BattleRife, that does look like 3.5" on his 100 yard target now that I actually look at the graduations. I just went on his comment of all 15 into 2" at 100yds. So if so, the same MOA produced as in my Nork without the oprod guide tightened up. Seems this may be an average expectancy with a stock nork and Chinese 762.

Yes sorry about my wording I just realized that myself haha a little embarrassing but still I'm happy with my rifle

No problem Army, that group is still repectable with that ammo over irons and unsupported remember that. I don't see that done much anymore, people dropping prone/kneeling or sitting and squeezing 'em off. Keep it up. You are probably approaching your rifles inherent MOA prone if you have 3.5, though I'm still thinking your rifle may bench closer2-2.5 MOA now with the oprod guide tight, but I can't say for sure unless you benched it and made them really count for a 5 round group . Took me along time to not put windage into my groups with the heavy trigger and looks like you have that part mastered. The slight stringing in elevation we both know doesn't mean much on score with most silhouette targets. I prefer it to windage error anyday and sometimes it as much the rifle heating as us not holding the same vertically over irons at distance. Cheers.

Very interesting stuff. I could learn a lot from you haha I'm pretty young and I just focus on my marksmanship principals. I'm aware of what causes vertical and horizontal stringing however I've never actually put much thought into while I'm shooting. There is no doubt I have much to Learn but I still can't bring myself to buy any equipment that would allow me to bench shoot it. Whether it be sand bags or a vice I just don't think I'll have fun like that haha I love the idea of just shooting in feild applicable situations. I hold this theory in all my rifles but it's also do to me being and extremely budget shooter haha when it comes down to me having any money it's usually towards ammo
