Odd SVT 40 marking...

Calling all SVT 40 Experts!!!

I just picked one up last week at TSE in Calgary. It has a strange marking on the receiver that I haven't been able to find any info on.

It's the square box with what looks like a cone of some kind on top of it, right over the year. Can anyone tell me what this represents??

my 1942 has the same square....pretty sure it's a re-arsenal stamp, can't help you with the cone

Maybe it was refurbed at New Years ? Its a Champaine Bottle in a Bucket. Oh come on guys thats funny.

The square is usual. The bottle neck is something else. Your picture is a little fuzzy and washed out. Are you sure the mark didn't continue under the square; can you see the part that has been obliterated?

Sorry about the photo quality, I only have an IPhone camera available right now.

The "bottle neck" doesn't continue under the square, I can see the Tula star inside the square.

Arsenal repair it is(after reading a numerous posts on russian source plus input from guys directly involved in the process)......even they can't tell you what arsenal/depot/storage unit/individual inspector etc it was. IMHO!
So enjoy as it is.

It is not worth of premium on re-selling price at the moment, but may be a couple of years down the road...you never know...
