polishing up the inside of a ruger 10/22 receiver (now with pic's!)

They have an outfit they deal with that sells their stuff in Quebeckistan, you can ask them for their details on the Kidd website.

That would be Fab Sports

Or, you can buy direct and have it sent to a receiver on the US border, and go get it...

A receiver!!?? I don't think so, unless you do a mound of paperwork, get a few very expensive permits and or want to go to jail?

Go down in a nice late model car and look presentable, lol...:) Aren't the permits, if you want to jump the hoops, the same as the ones
that a US vendor sent me to fill out and send back to him, and I got my rifle scope in a month? He first sent me a Cdn Import Permit app,
and that was issued in 2 days. Then I emailed that to him and he applied for a US Export Permit on my behalf, which took almost 3 weeks.
Neither one cost me a dime, and I wound up with a nice Bushnell Elite scope for $200, where they wanted $400+ here in Canada. The only
downside was the month's wait, but as I started this project in the spring, that wasn't a huge deal. :)

A scope is not a firearm....
Besides, what if I don't own a late model car??? :p
Click the link below to find out what is REALLY required to get a receiver into Canada from the U.S.

I was thinking of picking up a dlask receiver, but if I have to modify or sand it out, I might as well keep the ruger receiver which is already polished up nice. Thanks for the info. Anyone know where a Kidd receiver can be bought in Canada?

the Dlask receivers are fantastic!
im just really anal when it comes to my guns running smooth.
plus i have a lot of time on my hands and i need to get out to my shop as much as possible.
(i have daughters and sometimes ya just need to hide!)
so dont think that by me wanting to polish up the insides that the Dlask receivers are crappy, in fact if i could afford to i would switch out ALL my receivers for the Dlask ones.
they are super nice, specially with that built in top rail.

i hit the hardware store today, got some supplies.
no fine steel wool in stock, so i had to get medium.
i probably wont use it, its pretty ruff stuff.
i did pick up some 320, 600, 1500 wet paper.
so hopefully that will do the trick.

if i think of it ill take a pic of the insides of the 3 receivers and especially the one that is giving me grief.

here is the culprit that is giving me grief.
and i know why now.

have a look at some pics!

here is the beast.

ripped her apart.

here is the inside.... and yup, it looks to all be powder coated!
and as you can see, there is a nice line already carved into the side and the top right through the powder coating to the aluminum.

even the bolt/charging handle has wear on the top of it.

and this is the saddest part.
this is a brand new gun!
i haven't even shot it yet!
those wear marks are just from me working the action back and forth a couple of dozen times.

looks like im gonna be polishing the entire inside of this bad boy tomorrow and the top of the charging handle and bolt.
went and got the sandpaper and some mothers aluminum polish!

Hold up. Make sure its not that TI charging handle binding. Mine was great for a few thousand rds then it got horrible. I didn't look into it but I think the CH got loose in its fit with the bolt allowing it to misalign with the guide rod and bind. I'd look into it just to be sure. Maybe some parts swapping will help.

well, kids went to bed and i sat back in the shop with some good music on and started sanding.
hit it with some polish when i was done.
then gave it some oil (which beaded off.... so im guessing the polish is working?)

it definatly is running a LOT smoother now.
i didnt take off the black paint/powder coat or whatever it was, i just worked at it for a bit until it was smoooooooth.
the bolt i went at hard and it buffed up nice.

anyone notice on the new rugers the the one side of the bolt almost has a pattern in it?
like a whole bunch of half circles?
was like a fingerprint.
took FOREVER to get that smooth (was probably only 10 minutes)

ya know i did look at that and it does seem to be binding more then my other ones.
i sanded it down too and oiled it up and it seems to be moving better.

im gonna give it a bit and if it dosnt clear up im gonna pull that CH out and go either back to the original one or another aftermarket one and see if that fixes the issue.
