BNZ 45 Mauser project

did you have to pay the $30 for shipping? I hear they have a minimum $30 for exports or something?

would this gun have had a sight hood and cleaning rod? there is a hole there for a rod but I know some of the very late guns had a screw plug the hole.

Honestly, shipping is never a concern when I order. When I do a numrich order, I always order the full $100 worth of stuff they will sell you without and export permit, whether I need it or not, so the cost per part is manageable. I consume a fair number of parts working on milsurps, so it's never a problem.

Yes it would have had a sight hood and no it would not have had a cleaning rod. The stock on it now is the wrong configuration for a bnz 45 "S" block. It would have had the bands held on with screws and the bayo lug would have been deleted with a sheet metal cap held on by a screw at the end of the stock instead.

the book I was reading showed photos of the screwed on parts for the kriegsmodell what I believe this gun is. but they said some places still used the full parts till they ran out and called them Semi- kriegsmodell. maybe this is a semi? is S block that late do you think? because if its for sure a full kriegsmodell then I will for sure be looking out for the cap with no lug and other parts. all I know on the stock is there is a number 3 inside it and a very very faint proof mark.

While anything could be possible, it would almost be guaranteed that an "S" block bnz 45 would be a full Kriegsmodell. You won't be able to just directly screw the Kriegs end cap onto the stock you have and the band arrangement is wrong as well. The spring slot could be filled by someone good with wood but in my opinion you really shouldn't be messing up the stock that it is in right now.

Israeli K98k's in the original 8mm and marked with the Hebrew "n" character on the buttstock are fairly rare in their own right. Personally I would replace the bolt with a proper bent one like you have and then preserve it as it is. The Czech refurb and Israeli service is all part of its history.

Just my opinion.

I should add that the stock it is in right now is most likely post war Czech made and not original to the bnz 45 receiver/barrel.

No semi kreigsmodell bnz45s are known. They made a full switch. No transition.

So no rod, screwed on bands, no bolt takedown tool.

Yes a hood.

An S block would also be an awesome, lol, dull grey
Phosphate finish. Not blue.

I feel like someone should say it. All this part trading is to no avail. Its no longer anywhere near original, and never will be again. I would just enjoy it for what it is, a nice isreali rework. My opinion only.

I would agree with jb. The only real variance on some of these, is sometimes hte Czechs recycled a WW2 german trigger guard onto the rifles, other times they used the post-war Czech "winter" stamped trigger guard yours has. I personally do not like the winter guard as the floorplate is not removable and I sometimes unload that way. There is no "correct" trigger guard for this type of rebuild, so the one you installed is fine.

You might want to try gently cleaning that stock - it looks pretty dirty. I would use a clean cotton rag with methylated spirits (a type of alcohol) to see if you can get to clean up a bit. Then hand-rub in a coat of linseed oil.

i'm tying to build the gun to what it would have originally looked like. i'm not trying to match numbers just parts. this is a late war made rifle with an SS barrel it deserves respect.

do you have a pic of the gray finish? I cant find any pics of one like that on google.

i'm going to try and clean the stock as best I can. some one said if you leave the stock out in the sun some times it brings out the oil abit too.

Google bnz45 phosphate. 99% of bnz45 s block as this finish, which isnreally duplicated these days.

Also a kreigsmodell stock for a bnz45 could cost $1000 or more. Bands will be hundreds, screws are almost non existant. A steyr hood- $75.

Also there's no guarantee that its an SS barrel. Runes show up on random parts, it really doesn't add a lot to the rifle. It itself is not SS.

I agree it deserves respect, which is why I'd say not to alter it from its refurbed state.

Just a #### google pic. Very extensive bnz photos are available on k98k specific forums.

Interesting project, does the receiver have a star of david and the israeli parkerization finish?

What are you going to do with the straight bolt?

the floor plate is way to long. its longer then the one on the 1895 mauser even. I bought it on ebay just said a mauser floor plate and follower . now I have to look for a K98 one. the follower was the same but the plate was way to long.

the receiver has a couple of small proofs I can put a pic up. but not the finish. I already sold the bolt on the EE.

now I need a new floor plate but I am waiting on new stock and I found the second stock band for the kirgs model and sight hood.i'm probably going to replace the rear sight base too this one is really pitted up.

That's not a trigger guard, that's the floorplate. That trigger guard is still fine.

The floorplate can be fixed. A gunsmith should be able to silver solder that boss back into place.
