Variation in case weight

I start with 500 to 1000 pieces of 308 brass, and sort it into buckets of 0.3 gr increments. I load the ammo into 50 round plastic boxes.

If i had a small batch of brass i would sort in o.5 gr or 1.0 gr. An easy job that only has to be done once.

The last box of .308 win Lapua brass I bought was all within 1 gr from lightest to heaviest.
I divided it into 2 lots lightest to heaviest and then separated further by internal case volume (water weight).

Tested out my Lapua 308 brass today. Shot 7, 5 shot groups with it and other brass and loads. The Lapua groups ranged from 0.58 to .64 measuring centre to centre of the furthest spread shots. Also shot some decent groups with weight sorted Winchester brass and got some under 0.6" groups. Still, nothing stellar. Tried some cheap hunting bullets I bought at a gun show and got a 2.7" group. Hard to believe the same gun could go back to shooting under 0.6" after that. Also tested heavier loads with 46.5 and 47.0 grains of Varget. The 46.5 shot 0.570 for five shots and the 47.0 shot decent too, but the bolt was noticeably harder to open. All this is with the bullets seated .010 short of the lands. Maybe I should play with that as well at 46.5 grains of varget?

If you ask 10 Palma shooters that use Varget with 155 gr bullets, about 9 out of the 10 will tell you 46.0 of Varget will get you out to 1000 yards. Velocities will run around 2940-2970 depending on the barrel. At the point you are at right now, I would start playing with seating depth to see if you can shrink the groups a little. Use your .010" off the land as your base and then seat then .015, .020 all the way up to .040" and see what happens.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. What would be the minimum barrel length to stabilize the 155out to 1000?
