What are the requirements to obtain a 12.7 pistol from someone. Does it have to be family? Can it be extended family? Inlaws ect?

Exception to grandfathering

If a person is not grandfathered, the only prohibited firearms they may possess or acquire are handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm or less or that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, and only if all of the following criteria are met:
•the handgun was made before 1946, and
•the handgun was registered in Canada on December 1, 1998, and
•the individual is the child, grandchild, brother, sister or spouse of the lawful owner, and
•the individual is acquiring it for an approved purpose such as target shooting or as part of a collection.

Under these circumstances, the individual can lawfully acquire and possess the handgun in question, but they are not grandfathered or authorized to acquire more prohibited handguns.

This should have been covered on your course. You cannot buy into a 12.7. You can only inherit if all the criteria are met.

True. However "living" inheritance is allowed.

The relative can pass on a 12(6) to a 12(7) while both parties are both alive. Therefore, if the 12(6) maintains possession of at least one 12(6) gun to keep their 12(6) status, then the 12(6) holder can acquire as many 12(7) eligable guns as they want and contiue to pass those on to the 12(7) family member.

So while direct purchase is not an option for the 12(7), the 12(6) can be a middle man of sorts to help the 12(7) acquire more.

I've wondered about this myself, in a completely fictitious situation if for example my grandmother is not licensed, but her brother is. I could inherit from her, and if she was licensed (with RPAL) she could inherit 12.6 from her brother, so should I not be able to inherit from her brother?

"...love our ridiculous laws..." The Socialist F**ks wanted no inheriting at all. They want all these firearms out of private ownership.

She could inherit, then you could inherit from her.

It goes elder to younger. It cannot go back the other way.
