i want a 200yd 1MOA rifle for $500 to $800

since we're keeping this alive...

1 - i'm going to see just how good (bad) my Savage TRR is going to be once i get some proper SK / Lapua ammo through it. first at 100yd and then at 200yd, and then decide which way to proceed (get a specific rifle for 200yd, or just deal with the TRR and what it can muster)

2 - ok, if i do go ahead with this, it seems i may need to up my budget, probably to $1200 or so. *cough* Interammo IZHMASH Biathlon 7-2KO version 5 *cough*

3 - yeah, even shooting at 100yd with decent bulk ammo (Win Dynapoint), i tend to wait for the wind to subside if i want to pull off a good shot. i find myself looking for the lulls between gusts. kinda fun, actually!

Have a hope? Seriously, every rifle I've handled that has been produced in the last 10 years can shoot to 2" or less at 200 yards. That's 223rem, 270, 3030, 30'06, 7mm08, 300wm, etc etc

Modern centerfire rifles are produced so well that accuracy is virtually a foregone conclusion. I have yet to handle a modern rifle that could do this...

I'm speaking only of centerfires, of course.


All of that said, I have had some incredible groups with 22lr - using expensive match ammo. It might be attainable but it would only be repeatable on calm days.
 
The long range groups were shot with top-quality ammo, in a top quality rifle.
I have a batch of ELEY Match EPS [Black Box] that is very consistent and accurate in my
40X and My SUHL 150. [$1250.00 per case]
However, I have shot a few 200M groups under moa with RWS Rifle Match. [$650.00 per case]
Lapua Center-X also performs quite well, but it is also pricey.
If you think you can achieve this performance with bulk ammo...you are dreaming!

You should be able to do it. Best 5 shot group I've had to date with my TR(topped with a Sightron SII 6-24x) is 0.6" @100m using RWS target. And to be fair that wasn't a calm day as I had some gusting wind going on. I honestly have never shot that gun off the bench when it's been dead calm but it's my silhouette gun so really anything under 1"@100m is fine by me. I'm actually shooting Lapua Standard plus as my main ammunition at the moment but I'm thinking if I ever get a nice calm day I'll re-do my load testing to see if RWS is actually more consistent or not. I went with std plus as groups were more consistent when doing load testing even though RWS had the best group of the day. Eley kind of shot like ####. Remington target shot like ####. Federal gold I've yet to try but do have a couple boxes sitting here.

But long story short...your TRR should be able to do it once you figure out what it likes. Let the naysayers stick to their 10/22's shooting american eagle and getting minute of pop can at 50 yds if their lucky.
 
Eley Tenex is the best I have used, black box and SK plus do very good as well. I need to order more Tenex though, I'm out lol

I think most high end target rifles are designed to like Eley. Although Nick(Local guy; won the Canadian rimfire silhouette Nationals last year) was saying that his Weatherby(Anschutz action) hates the stuff. Kind of funny really because he insists on blaming the standard plus he was shooting for shooting a 39. Anyway I was just wanting to point out that Tenex is only the best if your gun likes it. :p

The CM-2KO is based on the SM-2 match rifle. It's $869.00, and should shoot as accurately as the BI 7-2KO. Less money, and cool magazine features. Same excellent adjustable trigger. Just a thought.

40X Remington, as equipped........$1800.00 - $2400.00. [A new one, when they were still available, could run $3000.00+]
36X Leupold with Short range focus.......$850.00 - $950.00
Jewell trigger at 4 oz $300.00
Mounts and bases. $75.00.

SUHL 150 BR Rifle, as equipped. [Almost impossible to find one] $2500.00+ [could run up considerably, depending on set up]
Leupold as above $850.00 - $950.00
Mounts and bases. $75.00
Harrell's Tuner $200.00

An Anshutz BR rifle on a 54 action will be in the same ballpark.
Some 22 rimfires are considerably more expensive than these. [eg, Feinwerkbau]

As to ammo, I have yet to find a lot of TENEX that shot as well in these rifles as this EPS Black Match lot does.
There is certain to be some TENEX that excels in them. Just have not found it yet.
However, most matches are won using ELEY EPS match ammo, [RED or BLACK] with Lapua offerings showing well in some matches.

Some of the older Federal GMM was good, but later lots were disappointing in my experience.
Likewise CCI Green Tag.

The OP asked if it could be done with $500-$800 rifle.
Eagleye...I challenge you to beg/borrow/buy an off the shelf CZ and replicate what you say is so easy.

This is because accuracy is dependent on time of flight. A rifle that is 1MOA at 50yds will be slightly over that at 100yds, then well over that at 200yds. A rifle doesn't shoot groups in the pattern of a cone, it is really more like a diffuser, similar to the opening of a trumpet or trombone.

Ya that's funny. I myself would buy a 10/22 and just add to it from there. There are more than enough aftermarket parts to supplement it. A budget closer to $1000 would lead to a few more possibilities though.
As for EE's comment, unless your spending that because you're involved in world class compitions, that's a waste of money. You might as well get a highend centerfire that can push out far beyond 200m for that kind of money.

IMO he (eagleye) should still have anted up the particulars in his first post.
I realize it comes off that I am being petty...but I read a lot of posts from so many newbies who are so disappointed in their new guns (usually a $200-$30 Savage or Marlin) because they aren't capable of the 1/2MOA that so many claim they are able to do all day long.
Some can (and I have no doubt eagleye is one who can)...but it would be nice if they would also mention how many years shooting they have and that their rifle and scope top $5K.
