Been looking at both of these type of sks and would love to have some of your input before purchasing one as to which to buy the Chinese version or the Russian. All opinions are greatly appreciated.

Six of one, half dozen of the other. The Chinese are reportedly a bit more accurate though not as nicely finished. They're also usually a bit cheaper. Either one will outlast your kids.
 
I'm partial to the chinese ones. Brand new, never issued, and all of them have a chrome bore. They also come sighted in. I have a hard time paying the same price for something that's been used roughly(unless you're into that kind of thing...) and has likely seen quite a few thousand rounds. The only reason I could see for getting a russian one is if you like the idea of holding a rifle that's seen combat.

As an aside I have no idea what people are talking about with fit and finish. The one I have is immaculate all around and functions amazing. No stamped parts as far as I can see and all the mill marks are internal to areas that aren't wear prone(like the inside of the carrier cover).
 
I've had a Russian, handled/shot both a fair bit, if I was to get another SKS i'd just go with whatever one was cheaper to be honest.

I'm partial to the Russian ones myself. It just more like the real thing right from the source. Although as far as mechanical function I'm sure they are both about the same.
 
Actually one thing I forgot to mention...the Chinese ones don't come with any accessories other than the cleaning kit and oil bottle. At least they don't from any source I looked at. The russians usually have a sling and stripper pouch with them.
 
My Russian definitely looks better, with a nicer finish and cool 'real' bayonet (Parade spike on the Chinese). The Chinese has nicer action and function.
Basically, for me, the Russian looks better and the Chinese shoots better.
