su16F horrible iron sights

My adjustment of the su16F has been quite horrible.

First, had to bring the rear sight almost completely to the left to have the rifle fire straight.
Issue is that it's a double screw adjusting and slacking/tightening thing.
Meaning, if I want to move the sight a bit rear, I have to unscrew right and screw left. Issue is that if you tighten it a bit more or less, you are affecting adjustment.

Then, I tried it at 100 yards, it fires like 10 inches low. um.

Now, there is something I wonder.
1- why didn't it come properly adjusted.
2- why is the barrel not in line with the receiver.

and 3- why in hell is the rear sight hole so big? hard to have a good precision when that hole is so big.
Do I need to move that rear sight thing more to the front, so that when I aim, the rear hole matches the front post size? because it's much larger now....
I would have to put the rear sight at the middle of the receiver at least to get a good size hole. makes sense?

Or just thrash this and get optics?

I thought the irons actually shot much better than expected. My front sight block was a tad off index when i got my SU.... I undid the two setscrews, straightened it, and tightened everything back up. The front sight post is screwed all the way in, then backed out one notch. Its been plinking bang on, it hits everything i've shot at within 100-150 mr so far. Not a precision gun by any stretch of imagination, buy thats not what it was made for.

The larger aperture rear sight just means you need to focus a little more on ensuring your front post is centered. An easy fix for you, barring that, is to make a small disc with a tiny hole in the middle and superglue it to the rear sight, reducing the aperture hole size.

My Kel-Tec had similar problems. Out of the box, it put rounds in the dirt 15 feet ahead of the backstop at 100m. I've had to file down the post, crank it almost all the way down, and move the rear sight back to the last groove on the rail just to get things close. Now windage is giving me grief. I don't expect it to drive tacks, I only want the irons there as a backup. It's been a lot of fussing and cussing- not impressed with those sights at all.

That is exactly how I feel about those irons.

What about that millet DMS scoppe, might be the best "cheap" option for an 1-4 scope? with the burris perp mount.

The sights along with many other things on Keltecs are crap , The Sub2000 i had it was impossible to zero , i ran out of windage adjustment and my point of impact was still 6 inches off centre of mass at 25m .. What good is a firearm when it has ####ty sights that can never be adjusted properly .. I called Vault the importer and talked to one of the biggest dickheads i have ever dealt with , all he could tell me was i was a bad shot and did not know how to shoot .. Biggest prick ever , would not do anything to help me .. I will never buy another product that Vault is involved with, they are a bunch of scumbag clowns ..

ya, that keltec is a nice piece of #### if you ask me, if I get a norinco type 97 I might sell that crap to someone else.
Until then, I might put a cheap scope on it, it can't suck more than the iron sights.
When brand new that gun shot a few feet to the right at 100 yards.... god.

oh well, technically, it goes bang.....

Keltec are ok guns for what Americans pay for them .. The SU16 and the sub2000 sell for about $350 down south , here they are about double the price.. I can see them being more here but not double the price, A rip off here .. Thank those greedy dickheads Vault.. I would sell it because there is a problem with cracking receivers lately, and Vault will just tell its your fault the gun cracked in half and wont fix it .. Its too bad we cant deal with Keltec directly because i hear their customer service is great ,,

It's been interesting reading this thread.
Yes, every manufacturer at some point screws up and sights can be off to start.

First time I fired an SU16 was the best five round group I fired in years, using the crappy iron sights.:p
My friends will never let me live it down either.
Could not have done this with my Swiss or an AR, no had to get a quarter sized group using one of these with stock irons.
Luck of the draw I suppose. I just took my time for once.

Aperture sights require a different technique(the front post does not need to be same size as rear). Research aperture or peep sights. Short sight radius is unavoidable on a rambo gun, and requires excellent eyesight or custom glasses to permit sharply focused front sight.

Good point, the gun is $350 in the US. They finding a semi auto .223 new for that price? You get what you pay for. If I bought a XCR and it shot like the SU-16, I'd be upset. However I can't afford a $2500 gun. Yes I have huge issues with Vault. Most Kel-tec owners do. I wish enough kel-tec owners in Canada would band together and complain to Kel-tec.
Is there anything like this right now?
Thanks

This. I bought one and it was pretty dissapointing. It felt like it would break if I looked at it the wrong way. The sight plunger dropped down into its bore just fine...and stayed there. The rear sight is surprisingly aluminum and probably one of the worst designs ever. If they re-engineered the reciever and made it out of aluminum and refined a lot of their decent ideas they could be a decent rifle worth the $800 price tag. Until then I won't waste any more money on Krap-tec.

Cheap plastic crap just like everything Keltec makes.....

Build quality of a water pistol.........

They must be doing something right if there guns are sold out within days of being posted.
Yes totally, if there upper was metal, wow it would be fantastic! However it would mean even more profits for Vault. GURRR, we should be able to buy direct from kel-tec, if not there guns, atleast there accessories.
