I am interested in buying a 300 wm for long range plinking and possibly large game hunting , I was looking at the heavy .30 cal bullets heavier than 210 gr and the BC beats the 180 gr 7mm
Has anyone had good results using these heavy bullets in a 300 wm ? some would say you can't beat the 7mm for long range but according to the numbers from Berger the 300 WM and a 230 gr hybrid should out perform ! I wonder how they would shoot from a 1-10 twist ?

Stabilizing a 230gr 30 caliber bullet may need a 1-8" twist.
I built a 300 win with a 1-8" twist to shoot the 240gr SMK for 1000 yard shooting. Shoots well but the recoil sure gets your attention.

My mind is set on the same goal. I have a bunch of 208gr Amax and. 1/10" .300WM coming.

The 208gr a-max is a great bullet.

I'm having a hard time convincing myself to shoot a 230gr Berger because of the price and what little benefit I will get with them over the Hornady.

Works out to about 80 more yards supersonic.

the 230 grain Berger Hybrid shoots great for me so far.
Last group at 1000 was around 7".
I plan to shoot them out well past 1000 in the near future.
when I get more groups on the paper, I will drop more info. it sure hits the gong hard! LOL!

220 grain Sierras have worked great for me out to 1900 yards, got some of the Berger 230gr hybrids to try out which should be as good or better from results others I know have had with them.

It's all about the wind ... The bullets are more than capable of staying supersonic way past any practical use I have

@dthunter, what twist is your barrel? I seem to recall you are using a magnum of some sort, what kind of muzzle velocities are you getting?

I have been meaning to try the 230-hybrids from the 11"-twist barrel on my .308 Win Palma rifle. I'm hoping I'll be able to get 2400fps muzzle velocity. JBM gives me just enough encouragement to go ahead and try (Sg=1.125 in standard conditions). The bigger part of my problem is dealing with the very short throat of my Palma chambering, which puts the 230-Hybrid about .400" deeper in the case than what I'd prefer(!).

The bearing surface is shorter in the 215's and I would guess that you would get more velocity out of them in a 300 mag. Since the difference in bc is not that much I would think that the extra velocity would make it a wash as far as wind drift is concerned and if one was limited by mag length that may help things. Just a thought for anyone considering these two bullets.

My 300 Win Mag is 1:10" twist. I am getting around 2775-2800fps average. They sure seem to shoot nice so far.
