So had my XCR out today for the first time, took it right outta the oil, and it shot great! However in the last five rounds before putting it away I noticed my bolt catch did NOT engage. I thought ok no biggie, I disassembled the bolt catch assembly and there was zero reason to indicate why it would not pop up and catch the bolt. I lubricated it and made sure it was spotless so I have no idea how to proceed, is this something I should send back to the dealer?

Is there any wear on the catch?? My rifle was out of spec and the lower had to be tweaked for mine to be 100 percent, my bolt catch chipped first though.

I can engage it manually, the mag and follower seem to be in functioning order. What do you mean the lower had to be tweaked? did you send it away on or do it yourself? The gas setting is on 4 thats what it cam from the factory from, didn't play with it at all. Is that too high?

Set the gas to the lowest setting it will run reliably on. Extended use with too high of a setting can cause premature wear. If you can engage it manually there's not likely to be a problem with it mechanically.

Try it with all the mags you have to see if the issue is related to one particular magazine.

Im pretty certain You can test for function with a .223 mag. Your bolt catch was very sticky when we left the range yesterday, did you take it apart and clean the snot out of it?
From what I saw it seemed like there was nothing wrong, Just gummed up.

Why do people not read the manuals? You just dumped $2500 on a rifle and you're just winging it and hope you don't break it?

The manual for your XCR will state that you are to run the gun on a high gas setting for the first 200 rounds to wear/polish all the interacting metal surfaces. Afterwards you reduce the gas setting to the lowest setting that the gun will reliably cycle on. For most ammunition this will be 1 or 2.

Running your gun on setting 4 indefinitely with ordinary ammunition will destroy your recoil buffer in relatively short order.

I just received one back in March and had issues with the bolt catch not holding even when manually engaged. In the end I contacted Wolverine and they sorted everything out.

No, it doesn't state that.

It says it may take as many as 200 rounds to break it in and that you should use setting 4. That is significantly different that must use 4 for 200 rounds.

fred0000,
I cleaned the shiza outta er and she didnt fuction any different so I sent off an email to wolverine, I have no worries they will help me out, I just dont want to let go of my new gun haha

I seriously cant find anyone with similar mags tho!

Im starting to think that RobArms really doesn't give a ratz ass about us canadians and shipped up a pile of fukc for us. The more i look into this the more people i find with fukcd up xcr's. Or Maybe its that the U.S. is going ape sh*t on buying guns in fear they might ban black rifles thus putting the pressure on companies like RobArms to start putn' out asap............ All that aside, i still love this rifle! Was sad as all hell today mailing her back to wolverine tho............

I ran my gas setting on 4 for about 50 rnds, then on setting one for a few thousand now on S. haven't had an issue with it in 8000rnds, no loctite, buffers, bolt catch etc. it did double fire on me once about 5000 rds ago still not sure why. that's it. guess I got lucky
