Im looking to get an auto loader in .308 under 6.5lbs with open sights ... Any ideas of how I can get this done in a none restricted ?

Would prefer if it had a 22 -24 inch barrel

step 1: move to the states
Step 2: buy an AR10

not any options that fit your requirements up here.

for semi .308 non restricted your limmited to

M14 (m305, m1a, m25) 9-12 LB
Kaltech RFB 8.1 LB
XCR-m 9.1 LB

and that about does it....

dont see whats wrong with the BAR for a light semi-auto. lordevilprepper prolly shot a BAR once and had it blow up on him :) !!

Id say BAR(if you need irons) or the FNAR(which is a BAR for tactical folks)

Or the kel tec RFB....

har har... it did not blow up... just not impressed with the cheap plastic, sticky action and the worlds most anoying drop plate magazine.
but considering this is the percision rifle section.... I would wager the OP wants something a bit better then a cheap Browning bar, or at leaste a rifle he can build up.

FNAR by FNH best bet ,an accurate rifle too , but no irons I think !

Funny how I have gone from long range shooting to not even wanting a scope anymore. I wounded a buck last year in the timber and chased him all day. I caught up with him about 4 hours later and he was a dandy, standing 30ft in front of me. My scope had fogged up so bad in the snow and rain that I removed my covers. Over the next couple of hours I didn't notice my scope had become so packed with snow it was like there was concrete covering the lenses. Obviously when I raised my rifle I could not see anything ... the buck ran away still bleeding like a cut pig. Followed him the whole next day until the blood trail ran dry ... Never saw him again.

This is the reason why im not interested in optics on my rifle anymore ... If I can add irons to something that's fine. Im hiking all the time so that's why I want it to be under 6.5 lbs. Figured if I could get the whole package in an auto loader ... why not

At a little over 6lbs im seriously considering running a CZ 858 and leaving my Rem 700 Titanium in 300wsm in the truck on really nasty days.

I just think the 7.62x39 is a little light even for Island deer ... I know it is enough but, I prefer 300wsm or even 30'06

So sounds like you want a hunting gun! I have an old Rem 742 in 308 that was my first hunting gun. It has taken many moose and deer, I used it for probably 15 years for hunting, and is still my goto gun for bush walking. I don't know anything about the newer Rem auto's and do know that the 742 was only good in 308. I have known of a couple in 3006 that were not dependable as the action is not strong enough, but have never had issues with my 308. I always wanted a BAR as I new they were superior in build strength, so I bought an older one in mint cond. at a gun show. It is not any more accurate than my 742 and certainly does not have the "feel". As far as quality an older FN BAR will never let you down and are for sale at all gun shows and all over the net, a little pricey though!

My grandmother uses a 7400 rem .308 with the bush barrel , it is a light semi with irons ... I sure the old rem semis are a lot better than the new ,?but seriously she takes it moose hunting with 180 core loks every year !

What about a mini 30?

Since you thought about the CZ and it uses the same cartridge so I assume you are okay with the x39 ballistic as a bush gun.

Not sure if you can find one or not but ruger did make a mini 30 in .308 call the XGI but only for a very short period of time though.

Accuracy on these guns are nothing stellar but if its a bush gun minutes of dinner plate size should be enough to fill the freezer.

I think it would be very cool to walk the bush with my CZ858 and ultimately bag a nice deer with it. Prolly could make up some nice hunting loads or buy some that would work well.

Going to a Lever Action gives you some better options IMHO.

Browning BLR Lightweight would be exactly what your looking for and lots of options for calibre.

Seriously considering a lever action ... Father in law has a lever action Marlin in .45 , The pistol round ... Anyway, he loads for it and its sub MOA at 100yrds. if I can get one in .308 it really is a serious option for me

If you want a 0-50 yard bush rifle a cz 858 is great its really light its awsome to sling cause the sling loops are on the side and that side is flat. Mag chanve are really fast cause of the body of the 5/30 mags plus it comes with 4. Also you can couple 2 together or as I did tape 2 together. Its a very customizable, a muzzle brake can be added ti almost eliminate recoil witch leads to fast follow up shot.

I have a cz and love it! But it was replace as my deer hunting rifle by a rfb, 27 inch of semi auto accuracy (1.5 moa give or take) I hunted 2 deer season with a burris ar-332 3x sight ( flip up caps would have took care of your problem ;) ) I now have a burris e1 3-9x40.

Cause of the sbort length of the rfb one could shoot it one handedly. The speed I witch yu can jump out of a truck with a 27" rifle is astounding! Also its really easy ti walk I the busb with it
