Why are we able to own ASSAULT RIFLES

"Why do you need an assault rifle?"
is not a legitimate question in a free society. What a person chooses to own is nobody's business but his/her own if they are not being used to infringe upon the rights of others.
The groupthink which engenders this question would have the collective sitting on judgement on every individuals choices in everything.
Why do you need an SUV living in the suburbs? Why do you need to fly south on vacation? Why do you need eye make up? Why do you need a cell phone? etc
Until the person to whom you are responding can establish harm to others as a property of your ownership of a rifle , then it is merely a collectivist imposition in a putatively free society.
 
SO. My request from you guys is to give me reasons that I could forward on to my friend. I think I pretty much covered it but I would like the following answered with your point of views.:

Why do you own one? Scram Troll!!!
Why should we have them?Scram Troll!!!
Why are we currently able to have them?Scram Troll!!!

The government banned/prohibited these guns to make the ignorant public feel better, and no other reason! No it isn't! There is no evidence one way or the other that Canadian gun control laws have had any significant effect on gun crime. Don't use that argument or you are promoting more gun control ( 'cause to the antis more is always better).
 
When asked if I own an assault rifle I answer yes. My FAL was designed to take the fight to the enemy not to humour them.
Why do I own one? Because I can.
Why should we own them? Historically interesting, mechanical marvels, fun to shoot , bragging rights.
Why are they currently owned? Because they have yet to be linked to the anti-Christ.

Wrong! The government banned/prohibited full autos - except for those who already owned them and who registered them - in 1978. That's over 35 years ago. And it's hardly surprising that none of those thousands of grandfathered prohibited Full Autos have been used in crimes during those 35 years that they've remained in private hands, because NONE of them had ever been used in crimes before that date either.

Later, the government prohibited Converted Autos completely - but allowed their owners to keep the thousands of them already in the country. And again, NONE of them have been used in crimes since then, but that is again hardly surprising, as NONE of them had been used in crimes before they were prohibited.

Say what you will. I own a norinco cqa 10.5 and I honestly believe we should be able to own what we want as licensed owners. The three simple questions are the fundamental questions my friend was pushing on me. For everyone else that contributed with the answers that I can forward on, thank you.
 
Don't forget movie armorers, they to can have the fun switch and suppressors.

The best part is those that have fun switches rarely use them and only use them in very particular circumstances.

I recently was at an emergency preparedness demo and there were some OPP tactical units there, I was very impressed with how many teachers they corrected when they were telling children that the AR was an assault rifle. They promptly told them that no its not an assault rifle its a semi-auto rifle and then told them that assault rifles are fully automatic or select fire and explained those terms to them.
