So I went out this morning for a turkey hunt and some a$$hat ended up ruining my morning. I was ready, I was hunting a piece of public land that I scouted the day before and spotted where a few birds had roosted. The next morning, this morning, I show up early, still dark out even though its a full moon, I set up right where I thought the birds were going to come out. About 20-30 mins later, at dawn, some guy shows up, making sure he wakes the whole freaken forest up and lighting the whole field with his flashlight (walked about 10 yds from my decoy) and decides he's going to set up about 10 meters away from me, not knowing that I'm there. Up to this point I'm pissed but its public land and there's nothing much I can do if buddy is a horrible hunter... So I take my flashlight out and signal him while he's breaking every possible branches in his path to his "spot to be". Buddy then starts walking towards me making even more noise and talking loud as hell. I'm whispering loud enough so he can hear, and I'm "telling" him in a civil manner to go away since I was here first, he just keeps on talking to me and asking me all sorts of stupid questions and being loud as hell, so trying not to lose my cool, I tell him to "go the ##### away where he came from and get a different spot". He leaves and sets up somewhere else. Sure enough he spooked the birds, the sun keeps on rising and I can't hear a single gobble. Eventually, I hear a gobbler, he's right around where I thought they were roosted. 2 hens eventually come out, make their way towards me like I expected and feed near me. The gobbler on the other hand is still spooked and won't come out of the tree line, he eventually comes out at the other end of the field where, somebody else, probably buddy, ends up taking a shot at it... Sure its public land and its open to everyone but FFS if you see an other hunter STFU and move along, especially if he was there before you... Anyways I ended up leaving a note on the other truck parked on the side of the road saying that if it was him, that he was pretty much an idiot and if not, to disregard that note and have a good rest of the season. I don't mind missing a shot on something because of my own mistakes but when its somebody else's fault it just pissed me off, especially the way it happened today :bangHead:

For those of you still hunting, have a great rest of the season!

The guy was a lot older than me, I'm 24... I don't think I should be giving advices at dawn right in front of roosted birds. I don't mind helping other people and I greatly appreciate whenever somebody gives me some of their time and advice, but there's a time and place for everything.

I can almost imagine the post that the other guy could be writing right now. "I went out on public land to hunt turkey this morning and ran in to some ass-hat who was there first and acted like he owned the place. He swore at me and told me to go somewhere else. I did move off and awhile later I got lucky and got a turkey. The other guy had the gaul to leave a nasty note on my truck, I guess he can't take a little competition in the woods."

I was stalking a whitetail in a clearing once, a vehicle passing by spotted me or the deer or both and decided to stop and watch. I froze for ten minutes, trying not to spook the deer and hoping the people in the truck would scram. They didn't, but the deer did. Some people just don't have a clue.

If not getting a turkey upsets you this much maybe you should just go to the supermarket.

I don't think you got the point of it, I'm not upset because I didn't get the turkey, its the way the guy acted after he saw me. Like I mentioned in my original post, I have no problem with other hunters on public land, they have the right to be there just as much as me but not moving on when there's somebody already set up there is just a #### move. He just stood there talking to me. I've walked on other guys hunting before, you just say quietly that you're sorry and move on... its pretty simple

I don't mind when an other hunter takes game instead of me, good on him. What I do mind is when someone gets YOU busted because their attitude. If you read my original post, I was polite with him and asked him to just set up elsewhere which is absolutely normal. I didn't tell him to ##### off and leave that piece of public land, after a 2 minute discussion with the guy which led to nothing especially when only one of the two is whispering and the other one being loud stepping on every possible branches, I did get pissed off. Why would you stick around in the first place? To make sure that he busts both of our chances?

Btw, I've run into lots worse.

One time we were camping, out in the middle of nowhere-Swan-Hills, and our group (4 hunters), set off to hike in this trail that was right at our camp. Another party of hunters came up the trail, in a 4x4, and even though they can see us walking in there, they just drove right on by us. We were like Wtf!? Who does that!?
Ignorant pricks.

Another time, I had hiked down into the bush, was watching a nice deer trail. My quad was sitting in the back of my pickup. Well that day, I had 3 bucks go by me, trailing does, and I was just hoping Mr. Big would show up, when a guy on a quad rolled up. Same deal. Even though he could see me there, he just drove by like I didn't exist. So I gave him the Wtf!? gesture. Like get off the quad and walk you lazy prick!
Later on in the week, I shot a buck, and when I unloaded my quad from the back of my truck, I found 3 of the 4 lug nuts had been removed from one wheel. It was done so you wouldn't notice; I didn't until I went to drive the ATV. As soon as I did, the wheel flomped over and completely buggered the aluminum rim, plus all 4 studs. I could barely tighten the single remaining wheel nut enough to drive the quad back up onto my truck.
To this day, I am certain that the MORON I saw in the bush that day, did it. But I had no idea who he was, and it's a good thing I don't know... cuz I don't need the problems that would have ensued if I had known...

No matter where I am, if I head into any area, and see other guys already there, I turn around and go else-where.

On public land the other guy is always the A$$hat.

Try fresh water salmon fishing on the Fraser River, good thing folks don't carry guns.

I think scruffee had a fair, and unfortunate story. Unfortunately many people are pretty clueless and lack courtesy, and if you hunt well travelled land you're going to suffer more of that unfortunately. I like airplane or foot access only areas, or my own land. Horseback is a good way to get away from the yahoos too.

When the gobbler didn't fly down after legal shooting time, you should have just shot him out of the tree. That would have showed the guy.

You found yerself a social butterfly.....
Nothing that would of stopped you from finding a new post?
I would of just sat there quietly and watched the monkey.

Some people just don't get it and never will. Even out here where there is no population density you find the morons. We live in a very small community but manage to have total moron in our midst. An unavoidable part of the human condition. Disappearing in the bush and leaving that element behind is a satisfaction I relish and probably most people on this forum feel the same way. Let it go, as you probably already have, find a new spot because fuzzynuts will be back.

This is exactly why i dont hunt on public land, i find private.

Private land is hardly a guarantee of privacy!!

I was sitting a field edge one time, and a pickup pulled in the field; it had that 'class' of hunter in it, that slowly circles the field perimeter, looking for anything to shoot. Scared off the does that had begun filtering into the field, and pretty much wrecked my day.

I've seen carcass drag-marks, right past No Trespassing signs, like 5' from the bloody sign. 'Cidiots', that figure they have a right to access any field that's not locked, regardless of whether it's posted or not...

I had an idiot from Edmonton, scope me once (I was in complete white, head-to-toe, standing on a side-road), and I had to whip a blaze orange hat out of my pack, and wave it to signal that I was not a game animal. That RETARD drove up to me, said he wasn't sure what I was and was getting ready to shoot. That had been pretty obvious to me!! I was some torqued!! Then to top it off, the fool asked me if I wanted a beer!!
I was boiling mad... to this day I regret that I was so angry, I didn't think to get the moron's license number. I would have reported that guy.

I know a guy from Edmonton, and he says his gang basically drives the roads, and fields (this in the Fort Assiniboine area), and they enter any field they come to, posted or not. He's asked me many times to go 'hunting' with his crew, but I always decline.

Etc...

To be honest, I'd rather seek out the nether reaches of wilderness, than deal with that sort of stuff, because at least in a wilderness setting you generally have options, other areas to go to.
