is it just bad luck or is it just coincidence a few tikka t-3 with stainless barrels around my area ,are turning up small brownish rust spots on the barrels including my 22-250 cal. now i,ve been around guns all my adult life and did some minor gunsmithing work on different guns, i am a machinist by trade and know for a fact that stainles gun barrels are not 100% stainless it is more of a 60-40 alloy of high carbon steel and stainless brushing, the guns that i've seen are all owned by experienced gun owners who take care of their guns, anything with some amount of stainless into it shouldn,t rust!! right anybody else with this problem !!!

I thought they are all plastic..

To the OP:
I have a couple buddies with Tikkas one in stainless the other blued. The stainless is a few years old and blued on is basically brand new. I've never heard about rust spots.
I would contact Tikka individually and ask them what's up. Email photos too. They should warranty against that or at the very least give you some suggestions. Good luck.

Stainless is not a free guarantee of rust free .... i ve seen Sako and Tikka stainless rusting but it s due to the lack of maintenance from the owners.

stainless is less prone to rust but if you dont take care of it it will rust, as stated by others.

all the best.

While I was checking the gun-line last wednesday on the range to clear the guns, I was talking to the owner of a T3 tactical, and happened to run my hand over the moderator to check how hot it had gotten. To my amazement, the underside of the barrel of this three-week old blued rifle was detectably rusty from forend to moderator.

stainless can rust rather easily. wipe it down EVERY time you touch it
stainless in the 304 series has a very hard time to rust. now 400 series (that contain .05- 1.45% carbon will rust)
the problem is during the machining the SS is not protected from the steel jaws of the lathe chuck and the metal carbide cutters. this is called cross contamination ... to fix apply rust remover (any of your choice) and then oil it well.. ur problem has disappeared.. .. good luck

my stainless m70 has been abused at various times over 18 years it developed a few freckles right away and never changed i have never seen a stainless gun with significant rust i keep hearing stainless guns rust i dont believe it however i rusted the front sight of my stainless 77 22 till it broke off right below the bead and the pins in the trigger rusted to about half size the gun looks perfect no rust on any stainless part the bore shines like new that poor gun sat in my rusty cars trunk for years with road salt and water.
