What exactly is the average red rifle owner?

Personally I am cheap, I make a good living but not into spending big money on stuff. Yes I prefer to eat at wendy's or McDonald's. I own most red rifles and a ross but not the expensive .280 ross but the cheap sporter M-10. I think we are not poor just cheap and reliable people just like our rifles.

I am still (unfortunately) living in Quebec. There is no way for me to make a +$1000 investment in a firearm that would have to be registered (and potentially confiscated) by the government. So for now, I'm sticking with a cheap red rifle.

I own/owned a lot of different types of rifles, from hunting, to black, to red, to things in between. I spend money where I feel it needs to be spent, but I'm a sucker for a good deal. SKS's are a steal, and it's hard to beat a cz858 for a cool, tactical, robust, non-restricted gun (got mine for $500 on EE with a bunch of accessories). The quality of the guns far surpasses what you pay for them. I've yet to get a Mosin, and I'm not sure why that is lol.

You won't be reliable for long if you keep going to Wendy's and McDonald's.
Just sayin'. ;)

Can't take what they can't find....

Gotta love the red rifles.Especially the surplus ones with their awesome dependability and amazingly inexpensive price tags. They're great for loading up the safe with a whole bunch of history without spending a whole bunch of money. Love my red family.

I just like red rifles. Cheap or expensive doesn't matter. Like my SKS, my mosin and want Valmets version of the RPK, the Type 81 and DSA's RPD if they come.

@ fenceline- I agree. I LOVE red rifles. Not just the rifles but combloc style smg's aswell. I for one will be buying an RPD when and if they come in to add to the collection

@OP- I definitely would not say red rifles are all cheap, trust me on that one.

Just to clarify, SKS are inexpensive, not 'cheap'. But where else can one get an unissued, semi-auto battle rifle for around $200?

I'm not sure I buy into the arguements postulated on this site by various vendors, that the supply of these rifles is limited and that low prices are coming to an end. In prudence though, I have bought several.

In response to the OP's thread question, I would say SKS purchasers are frugal (again, not 'cheap'), value-conscious buyers. Some are attracted to the historical aspect of the firearm (not I though, too pragmatic for that). And some folks just go for the inexpensive fun factor.

Im not cheap and maybe not even thrifty. But I prefer Red to Black for a bunch of reasons - reliability/robustness, NR, and inexpensive ammo (Which means more practice for the same amount of money). Robustness is key.
I probably do and will spend as much as someone tricking out their mall ninja AR15, but I will end up with twice as many rifles and ammo for the same amount of spend.
That said, if an XCR .308 was $1499 instead of $2499 I would probably own at least one.

Young, male. Just finished secondary education. Starting a new job. Looking for a good reliable firearm while I start to learn the sport. Now I know the sport and know how to clean rifles and other the other ins and outs. I love it for reliability.

Red rifles can take a beating and I feel that I would rather carry one into the woods then most guns.

22, and not long starting a job where I have more expendable funds to throw around. Shot shotguns all of my life, and a .22 for some plinking, then this caught my eye. I like it for the fact that it's NR, I can take it in the woods (There's 1 shooting range in this province), and there's plenty of ammo available. I wouldn't say I got it on price point alone by any means. Now that I'm on the forums, I'm just reading more and more about the reds, and I'll probably be picking up more in the near future. Fingers crossed on the Type 97. Who knows, I might even pick up an SKS.
