How many rounds do you go through?

When you go to the range to just try and improve target accuracy, how many rounds do you go through? How much time do you spend on average? I have a .22 and two 9mm's, a plastic and a steel one. Last time out I went through about 80 .22 shells and a 150 9mm's. I'm working on slowing down and taking more time between shots or shooting in groups of 5 and checking things over. I'd like to hear about routines that other people follow. I find it hard to hold back and I purposely bring a limited amount of ammo so I don't get carried away.

I used to go through around 200-300 9mm's when I went to range with my dad. Those times are sadly over since he left the range.
Now it's around...
150-200 rounds of 7.62x39
20-40 rounds of .303
50 rounds through the shotgun
...once a month or so

I shoot 500 to 900 rounds almost every time I go to the range. Now out of that 2 to 4 hundred will be .22 ammo. I stay generally from 3 to 5 hours each time.

Quality might be more important than quantity?
Making noise, or seriously working on skill development?

Last Sunday I shot :
- 200 rounds of 9mm
- 150 rounds of .45acp
- 280 rounds of 7.62x25 (Tokarev TT33)
- 50 rounds of .44magnum

100-150 rounds.
No more.
I feel it's the best compromise between staying proficient and solvent...and I must stay proficient.
It's my job.
I'm jealous while looking at the above posted numbers :)

Just started reloading 9mm to offset the cost since my g/f shoots almost as much as I do, so I figure my 200-300 rounds/visit will jump to 400-500 soon...

12ga, 5.56 and .22 is always different. Could be 100-200 of each depending on what I feel like shooting.
I always feel like shooting 9mm.

^^^^This, I think I've gotten past the "I just got my ATT and need to put as many rounds down rang as possible" stage and need to start focusing on my skill set.

You may want to add "how many per month" to your question. A lot of folks said x number each time out but is that monthly or weekly? I just retired so budget is a consideration for me and I'm going every other week. I generally shoot 100 centerfire (9, 38/357, 45LC and 44mag) and at least that many 22, depending on whether I'm shooting my revolvers or 22/45. In case your wondering I do reload. TC

Absolutely working on skills development, last week involved 300 draws from the holster and hit a 3x5 card and 150 draw fire one (3x5 card again) mag change fire one, mag change fire one etc. Also about 50 rounds of accuracy work to start. I forgot to mention I also pop a couple of hundred rounds of carbine ammo a month - all drills.

I usually shoot between a hundred and two hundred centrefire rounds a week, and a hundred .22 LR. I find spending more time than this is usually wasteful for me since I end up getting tired and my focus starts to wander. If I'm just going to do some recreational blasting, I might use a lot more. But when I go to practice for competition and do stuff like practice weak-hand DA trigger pulls, I can only do it so many times with real focus before my groups degrade.

I find I start getting sloppy with the 9mm toward the end of my session then I switch back to the .22 for a little fun before I leave.
