Colt 38 super barrel change

I suspect the major issue would be finding a barrel. Otherwise it's just a fitting job. You might run into a slide size issue too. The 9mm case head is rimless and 12 thou smaller. Definitely be extractor issues.

I have a colt combat Commander series 70 chambered in 38 super, I was wondering if I could put a 9mm barrel in it for general plinking?

If by chance you find a Colt 9mm commander barrel, ask the seller to measure the OD at the muzzle.

A regular 1911 barrel tends to be .581 at the muzzle, give or take a few .001.
Vintage Colt Commander barrels for the 9mm are sometimes .491 or so and require a different barrel bushing.

If you order a new aftermarket barrel, you won't have that concern.

i am not suggesting anything...

but I shoot 9mm through my 38sup, and I have read many others do on benos.com
and these discussions also always end up in heated keyboard battles, so I will not follow up this post.
