Anyone know anything about this?

Alberta Tactical Rifle posted a thread today saying they are cancelling orders for Swiss Arms rifles because they are being examined for reclassification and are probably going to be moved to the prohibited class as converted autos?

WTF?

Hate reclassifications! cause you know they only go one way! from good to Prohibited. It would be very nice if a few rifles in the prohib and restricted classes were reclassed to Non restricted! Yeah, like that will ever happen.

Just sayin... i'll lose my #### if this happens.

If it were to happen, I can see a lot of stolen gun claims coming in.

These have been selling for 12 years..........If this is true, its time for all owners and those of us that don't own it but guns like it to Stand and Fight as one united voice! If everyone makes a stand, they will back down!

godDam it I hate when this happens.

Hope against hope this turns out to be a non-starter.

I mean, really! Not like this theorized re-classification is in answer to some pressing need in the fight against crime, ffs! When last were one of these rifles used in criminal fashion? Like, I'm not sure, but my money is on never, in Canada.

Waste of time, waste of money, govern-mental masturbation.

I really hope the gov't's word means anything and they will shutdown any RCMP plans:

A spokesperson for Public Safety Minister Vic Toews says no action will be taken to increase controls on controversial firearms once the long-gun registry dies.

Never heard of one of those, now get the F off my property.

Making these prohibited is the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. Lots of gang bangers knocking off the local 7-11 with these? Bank robbers carrying them? crazy idiots running around killing people with them?
Lets make politicians and everyone working for the CFO or RCMP classifications lab prohibited. They don't seem to do anything to help us lately, just lie to us and screw us over every chance they get.

If the receivers were designed as full autos then made into semi, then it would fall into the converted auto category.

So send that receiver in, get one that never was full auto then install all your parts back onto the new receiver.

Sucks price wise. But the Swiss isn't a "named" prohib so it would be able to make a return if it does get prohib.

Just a PITA. Whoever made the complaint should be named, and if in the gun industry thoroughly shunned.

There's that option (sending it in) or pushed TSE to finally get moving at light speed on the Swiss Arms 553-US Lower, something that's been floating around for a long time in their section of the board..

It's a PITA and Costly option, but it's an option.

Also, when and if owners do send them in, I sure hope that what is sent in to the RCMP is completely empty receivers or whatever other misc parts they'll ask for and not complete rifles.

The way i see it is that inadvertently the rcmp might be helping our cause of reforming Canadian gun laws if they reclassify. If the swiss arm rifle has been sold in canada for 12 years and lets say there is roughly 500 of them in civillian hands, it will prove to anyone that we are not converting these rifles as the rcmp says we are capable of doing.

Also if they reclassify the swiss arms, 858's and the shorty shotguns as farmboy has mentioned it will prove the rcmp is incompatent. It will also prove how little these named firearms have been used in crimes.

It is possible i think that if the some of the 858's and swiss arms are actually converted autos the RCMP will sit back and do nothing as it will be a huge sheit storm landing in the rcmp's lap. In this case it will be better to bury their heads in the sand then to go public with what they know.

The upper is considered the firearm (registerable serialed part)

I know that.

Point was to take away from the RCMP any and all arguments that your Swiss can be turned into a select-fire rifle. An upper receiver cannot do that.

Which leads to my observation in ATRS's section & thread: what about the Carbines and CQB's. Are they going to become prohibs as well?

Sask Sten. He threw the SKS and Swiss Arms owners under the bus because the RCMP wouldnt approve his stupid NR sten guns. Said that his was no different than the following popular rifles "SKS, Swiss Amrs etc etc...."

Really? So because his POS Sten wouldn't pass the tests, I may loose my Swiss Arms rifles.

WTF!?!?
