I want to get a rifle custom build chambered in a 300. Win mag for 1000 yard shooting. I don't know of any smiths other then Alberta tactical in Canada. Does anyone have any suggestions on a smith, and pictures of any of there builds. I'm in Ontario but as long as its in Canada I don't care where I have to get my rifle shipped from.

i would get it built by Hi Pro Precision in brandon manitoba....check out his web site! Jerry is a superb Guy.....Has built a big number of rifles for me and friends!!

Mick McPhee from Kamloops B.C. He is cutting the rifling in his own barrels in 30 cal that are second to none. I talk to him about long range shooting once in a while and his opinion is that 30-338WM wildcat and 308NM are better at it than 300WM.

grizzly gun works is near Cambridge Ontario.

ive had jeff do a ton of work for me and my friends, very good prices, great service.

Re Ontario :I have owned a rifle built by Casey at Tac Ord - the rifle was a great shooter and as far as I could tell the workmanship was excellent. I've also had Sean at NSB put a rifle together for me and I'd have no hesitation in asking him to do more work for me - again the rifle shoots excellently and the workmanship looks great. Out West I've always been happy with anything ATRS has done for me and McPhee builds simply great rifles.

Sean at Nortshore Barrels he has done excellent work for me very happy
With his work and great service. He is in Ontario check his website out

X2. I currently am enjoying my third build from Sean and am eagerly anticipating the arrival of my fourth, and already have plans for next years build! Phew, I think I will have to get a part time job at McDonalds to pay for all this! You want fries with that?

I've been very happy with the 308 F-TR rifle Sean at NSB put together for me, and judging from the invoice I just got sent it looks like I'll be taking delivery of a 6.5x47 from him early next week. I've also never seen a rifle built by Ian Robertson that wouldn't shoot bug holes.

Does anyone have pictures of the builds from these smiths? Or any groups that have been shot, how well it shoots at 800-1000 yards? What actions they have and build with?

Thank you for the quick response. I appreciate it. I noticed that Sean's prices were much better then ATRS. I was also wondering what you thought of the defiance vs stiller. I know the defiance is a little more money, and has the 1 piece bolt. But which one I'd you like better? Was the machining and builds pretty comparable between atrs and nsb.

I would not buy a Stiller again - had a problem with it and while ATRS were very helpful I cannot say the same for Stiller's customer service re Canadian customers.

Add: For a Tactical rifle I would either go with a Defiance custom or, if factory, a PGW. For an F/Class build my preference is to have a rifle built on a Barnard action ( nothing wrong with others, just personal preference ).

Here's the tread for the 308 Sean did for me:

This rifle will outshoot me all day, and has certainly helped make me competitive at regional and national F-Class shoots.

My 6.5 is being built on a Stiller TAC 30, with a McMillan A5 and Broughton barrel, all supplied by Sean. I'll put pics up as soon as I have it.

It looks like sean does some beautiful work, and I'm glad to hear the good reviews of him and his work! I'm hopin more people post pictures of there builds from some of the mentioned smiths from this post. I wish he had an accuracy guarantee

I don't mean to be rude but buying a fancy sports car, doesn't necessarily make you a fast driver.

Nor does a car with a bright red paint job make it fast.

when using quality gear put together by better gunsmiths, the potential for great results is there. What we can't control is the ammo you use and the skill level you possess.

However, when all the needed ingredients are put into the mix, great things happen.
