I was shooting my 858 in the Blast Off this weekend when it apparently jammed. Upon closer inspection, I realized the locking lug recesses are deformed and preventing the bolt from closing. I've only shot about 600rds of Czech surplus through it. What a drag.
I feel fortunate it held together and didn't plant the bolt in my cheek.
Keep an eye out on your guns for this deformity.

It was nitro carburized. Do you think that contributed to the wear? I understood it was just a surface treatment and shouldn't change the properties of the metal.

Absolutely. There was at least one batch done that messed up the heat treat of the receivers, leaving them too soft and causing damage like you have.

Was this a known issue to the company that did the NC work and then sold them?

That's really bad. I check mine of wear like this when I clean it. Only thing close I've seen is slight peening on the top of the locking lug (top being where it bolt carrier, not the receiver).

I think mine was the first batch. I got an email 3 years ago today saying it was ready. The promise was to impart an added durability and rust resistance. It delivered the latter. I've never cleaned the muzzle brake as a test and there's not a spot of rust after 3 years. Too bad about the durability!

Does anyone have any more info on the messed up heat treatment? Mine was part of the first batch. The trigger pin retainer clip on mine became loose after refinishing and trying to re-stake it caused it to break. Does this sound like heat treatment issues?

I had the Nitro Carb done by Raunch Tactical too , i think mine was on the first or second batch .. I fired a crate or so since the work was done .. I dont know much about the NC process but i know it takes a hell of alot of heat to change the temper of carbon steel , like get it red glowing hot... sure dont think they get the parts that hot in the NC process ? What are the chances the heat treating was bad to start ? Im going to give mine a inspection now and post pics ..
