Well we are on the topic, is there much difference between standard primers and match primers. I have collected a few boxes of match primers and have used them when I load Lapua brass. FS

i don't know if they are any hotter then a standard primer, but they have a more consistent ignition so you can focus on other variables.

id be curious to know if it's same priming compound but put in a more consistent manner or if it's a different compound all together.

to what I have heard and read about match primer, the quality control is more serious and gives more consitant ingnition
so for the price difference per shot, I use only match primers in all my rifles

I've used them in my .308 Win, and managed to shoot 100 yd groups 1/2" * 3/4" of a test load, ignoring the trigger nut influence on the bad shot 3/4" away from the other 4 shots.....

I can't say if they're any more consistent than the regular large rifle primers I've used. I would hope that the higher price gets you something....

I am wondering how someone says the match primers are "MORE CONSISTANT", what real proof do you have that this is correct? what does "MORE CONSISTANT MEAN IN A PRIMER" ???? I have shot both and cannot say one is better than the other. I guess if you pay a bit more for these and it makes you feel more confident, it's worth it?

I was skeptical when I bought my first match primers. But after thorough testing shooting from a rest I would say that most of my loads group tighter with match primers. They also seem to group more consistently in the 3 calibers I tested them in. One load in particular was .303 for my Ross mkIII, 37.5 grains of IMR 4895 pushing a 174 grain .312 hornaday round nose bullet.

My initial testing was with normal large rifle primers. My normal groups were 1.5" @ 100 yards. Then I tried match primers for the next couple of shooting sessions, results were .9" at the same 100 yards.

This was the most drastic change in accuracy but most group at least 1/4" better.

Might just be me but in testing with 3 calibers I've experienced nothing but good results with match primers. I will only use them for my bench rest shooting from now on.

They make primers other than match primers?!?!?

And here I thought BR2's BR4's, 215M's were all that was made for rifles? huh......
