Hey guys so I just got my restricted and range membership ready too roll but I'm a little curious about something a guy at work told me. He said that a couple weeks ago he bought a handgun here at cabelas (Winnipeg) got all his paper work done and then drove down to the CFOs office and said within 20 min he had his completed transfer and att. Is this even possible? I though I have to mail in the info. Thanks guys I'm just confused at this process a little

I have stopped in at the BC CFO's on several occasions. Nothing like dealing face to face to get things done in a few minutes.

I know I brought my restricted paperwork directly to the office. They even took a pic with a Polaroid instead of me having to pay for the passport photo. The best thing was that I did not have to pay the $60 either. Cost me half that in fuel to get there in the first place, but was worth it.

I wonder if they 'allow' that in Ontario? You'd probably get arrested for attempting to sully the hallowed halls of Wyatts fiefdom with your presence! 'Lord Chris, the peasants have gained entry!'

It can speed things along, as they'll usually process it right then since you're there. However it can backfire, especially if the CFO starts to think that a gunstore is telling people to come by in person. I think in a few cases they've even said it's "unfair" to everyone who they are forcing to wait.
Got my first pistol and LTATT that way, took barely any time at all.

Every time they are serving you, whether it's in person or when you call in ten times to complain it's taking too long, they are not serving someone else. Your speedy service just bumped somebody off the pile to ‘tomorrow’ or ‘maybe later.’

Nothing wrong with that; the system is broken, and you don't need to apologize for trying to get at least your stuff in and out of there in a reasonable time. We do still need to keep the pressure on them, and especially those above them, to let them know this is an un-acceptable level of service.

The various Provincial CFOs' offices are all in their respective capital city down-towns, right? If you live or work near there, do drop in and say you thought you'd sort it out in person; I know I've found the service quite efficient that way. If your address is two hours out of town, you'll probably get a ‘You didn't need to come all this way for this’ kind of reaction, though.

My last face to face with the mb CFO, I was told that because I lived in the city they don't have to process right away, they were allowed to take up to 5 days. That being said it only took 24 hours, this was early in the year, might depend on who you get and what their mood is. They will definitely do it immediately if you buy in winnipeg and you live out of town.

I do most of my restricted stuff by visiting them. It is faster to have them check it and ensure everything is OK than having it rejected, a letter sent to me, and then I have to reply.

Be aware, the Alberta CFO is right downtown (where parking sucks horribly and parking in wrong areas & private lots can be a $55 and up ticket), they do everything behind 4 inches of bullet proof plexi-glass and have ZERO humor.

Otherwise, a fun trip. :p

I've generally gotten same or next day service over the phone with them. MB doesn't suffer as badly as some of the other provinces when it comes to our CFO. If you contact them earlier in the business day it seems to help speed things up as well.

And you still haven't told us what you're adding to the toy box yet.

Looking at the m&p 40 although I'm gonna hold a few toys before I buy haha. I got delayed a little and will be doing all this tomorrow, I'll let you guys know how it goes. I hope it's fast as I don't think I can wait till Monday or even later.
