i see this question come up from time to time; what are the ruger trigger pull weights, how much can i shave off with some polishing, how much can i shave off with replacement parts, and how much can i shave off with a primo after market assembly?

well tonight i was testing some pistols and decided to test my 4 rugers.

i thought id post the results here in case anyone wants to see them.

might help someone out some time in the future.

gun 1 - stock ruger trigger group (2013 production year - composite) = 5 1/2lbs
gun 2 - stock ruger trigger group (1991 production year - aluminum) = 6lbs
gun 3 - stock ruger trigger group with VQ parts (hammer, seer, all springs, trigger)(1988 production year - aluminum) 2 1/2lbs
gun 4 - Kid Trigger Group (2013 production year) 8-10oz

now, take into account the Kid one is adjustable and i have mine set wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy down..... but not at the lowest setting.

hope this info helps.

oh, if anyone has a stock assembly that they did a trigger job too and one that was honed and polished on the hammer those would be interesting numbers to add to this list.

cheers!

Interesting....
What measuring device did you use and what was your test method?

i picked up one of the trigger pull scales from Brownells when i did my last supply order.
i just slipped it into the trigger and give it 3 pulls, then averages out the 3 numbers.

i was gonna pull the trigger assembly out and do it like that.... but i dont pull the trigger assemblies out when i shoot the gun so i thought doing them in the gun would be best.

Which one is your favorite pressure? How does it help?

i like the stock ruger trigger.
nothing wrong with it.

for the money, i think the stock with the VQ upgrades is super nice and not too much $$.

if you have money to burn and wanna drive a cadillac then get a Kid assembly.
they cost more then a new ruger 10/22 but there is a reason.
they are soooooooooooooo nice!

i dont regret all the pain in ordering it in and waiting and paying the over $300 for it.
it really is a superior trigger.

BUT, it would be wasted on a gopher plinker gun.
if you do bench shooting and like to test yourself to see how tight you can get your groups then for sure go for the kid.

im thinking of sending my one stock trigger group down to that Brimestone Gunsmith to get him to do his trigger job on it, then i can compare that to the Kid and the VQ ones.

You can get the VQ match hammer to lighten your trigger at Brownells for $33.

ya i picked up mine from milarm when i was down in Edmonton a couple month back.
cant recall the price off the top of my head.
but the little baggy had all the parts in it.
hammer, seer, new springs and such.
basically all the guts of the trigger (including the trigger)
