OK, I have my new Stag Arms 3Gun rifle coming soon and wanted to start thinking of what type of scope I should have. Any suggestion and comments on why you decided to go with a particular scope? I have a Dueck transitional iron sights coming so if we could limit this conversation to optics it would be appreciated.

Swarovski z6I gen2 with brt. Buy once and cry once(hopefully). That's if you want to be ready for matches with long range targets.

if you cant muster that then the TR24 is a great scope at a great price. A good choice if you never really have to shoot say past 300.

I picked up a used Elcan and am happy with it. Good luck.

I think the new Sightron 1-7 with exposed turrets for a more tactical feel is going to be real hard to beat for this game. Right price, right zoom range, true 1X (as I understand it), and respected quality.

There are others, but, Sightron's doing it for a serious price point, with some serious features, and quality construction.

Love my Elcan Specter DR 1.5-6;

The bullet drop graduations are great - the single switch to magnification is ultra convenient and that big lens sure lets lots of light in.

I do understand it's pricey, though.

When I was buying my optic, my criteria were, good clear glass, bdc reticle, daylight visible red dot that I could turn on if I needed it and as close to true 1x magnification as I could get.

At the time the Swarovski Z6i was the one that met all these.
Yes, I cried a bit, but looking through it makes my smile every time so I got over it rather quickly.

I was also considering the Meopta ZD 1-4x22. Heard good things for the most part.

Today you have decent offerings from Bushnell and Leopold, that work well for the 3 gun game.
At the end of the day, you have to look through each of these and determine which looks right to you.

Kgwalsh12, you have time.
Don't rush and buy something until you have actually done the research.

Heard great things about Sightron glass.
Haven't seen this scope in person yet though, I think.

With regards to exposed turrets, they are great if you have time to use them, but on the clock, they are useless in my opinion.
The time it takes to dial in distance, someone with a BDC reticle will just hold where they need to and hit the target and be on to the next one.
Also, if you forget to set it back to zero, your next stage could get messed up on tight shots around no shoots etc.

Not to mention, if I was a jerk, I could very easily walk by and start cranking on your windage when you aren't looking!!!

It is the "if" part I am having a hard time understanding..........LOL

I like my Sightron......best glass I have ever looked through......I would like to have a peak through the swaro sometime side by side....I do like the idea of a BDC reticle

Now......I just have to find some time to shoot!

Sorry, was trying to stay low key to those who don't know me.

Please replace "if I was" with "because I am"...
:)

Think of the money we'd all be saving if we just be men and shoot with iron sights.

Magnification and reticles aside... There's nothing better than quality, clear glass...
And with that... You get what you pay for.

That's why it's no surprise that often... Your scope will cost as much or more than the rifle it's sitting on... Lol

I got a Bushnell tactical elite 1-6.5 ok scope but eye box could be better.People who f@ck with other people's scopes should have their fingers broken!! If you need to cheat to win at 3-gun, your just a loser anyways!!!!

Depends a lot on how far you shoot. When I tried 3 gun the first time, I figured a 1-4 optic was the only way to go. After a few matches I realized that in an average shoot that I go to, we only have to make a few, if any, shots at 100 m, and most are 50 or less. Even on 1X the eye relief still comes in to play. This year I went with a red dot in a scout configuration and found that it worked very well for me, and made my follow-up shots faster. Still have the optic (a Hi-Lux from Wanstalls) if I find that we are starting to shoot more long distance, but we aren't like the videos from the states-shooting out to 200 and 300 during a 3 gun.

Elcan 1-4, Super tough. True 1x, flick of a lever gives you 4x. Etched BDC reticle and variable brightness red dot, incredibly clear and bright, Everyone that has looked through it is astounded.
