280 AI Questions

Prophet river has dies and brass. They are a board sponsor and have a banner above. I would prefer a 24", but it is certainly not neccesary.

Can anyone tell me where I can buy dies in Canada please.

Does the AI need a 24" or longer barrel of would it work fine on a 22"?

I've had both a 22" and a 24", there was very little velocity difference.
Both were awesome shooters and the AI is easy to reload, one benefit is a lot less case trimming...

A 7RM will do all the 280AI can do. That's my advice. :)

That's very true, at the expense of more powder, but the difference between the two can be very slim depending on the bullet weight as loaded.
I've had three 7mm RMs as well as two 280 AIs and as far as I'm concerned its a case of ' to each their own.'
To me the 280 AIs were a lot of fun and interesting as well and I'd have another one again..... would I have another 7 Mag ?.. nope..
Nothing against the 7Mag, its a superb cartridge, but if I have to burn that much powder I'll take my 300 H&H over the big 7...

I've found the .280AI enjoyable so far. RL22 and 160 Accubonds break 3000fps in a 24" bbl, and I never did better than that accurately with a 7mm Rem Mag accurately.

That is my findings as well, my experience with RL22 and both 160 / 175 gr. bullets in the 280 AI was that it was ideal for those bullet weights.
Also, like most other cartridges the loudest critics are those that have never had or played with one....

The first 280 Ackley I had was a rechambered Ruger 77 with its 22" barrel, and got 160 gr Partitions to 3000 fps. Needless to say, it was a very effective big game cartridge with that load.

An RCMP member up here bought it for his sheep hunting rifle. He loaded 140 gr Partitions, and as far as I know is still, using that load for everything.

Eagerly awaiting my Cooper 280 AI in Jackson Game to be made! Any day now. I got the dies from PR a while back but they were out of brass. Hope the will have some brass by the time my rifle comes in, OR, I'll just have to fire form some .280.

Not sure who this is. We just had a JG in 280 AI come in with beautiful wood. What are you waiting for? This may be your rifle?

BTW, Sinclair is out of Redding 280 AI last I checked. Redding is so far behind.
We are out of 153 cals that are normally in stock. Good news is they are shipping us several hundred sets of dies we ordered in February later this week. Should be 280 AI on there. :)
