Ottawa not giving out ATT"s?

Finally got my ATT today. It came with a nice letter stating that the CFO office was changing the att's. the letter stated that it is no longer necessary to recieve an invitation to go to another firing range. All you need is to be guest of a member of that range. I was amazed at how little was in the restrictions considering all the recent restrictions in Ontario.

Why do you need to be a quest of a member? Some ranges have drop in rates so why do you need to know anyone to take your gun their?

I've heard of the long wait times in eastern Canada but a month is ridiculous. I'm from Alberta. Bought 2 handguns about a month ago. One locally, one from BC. One transfer was approved in 2 days, one the next day. The ATT's were instant. They e-mailed me the local one for that evening and the one from BC was emailed to the seller. I had possession via Canada post in about a week. A year and a half ago our CFO quit and our paperwork was going to BC for approval. It took me a week to get a new gun home from a dealer then.

How long is your att good for? How long did it take to get?
Just wondering because im waiting for one

I think our ATT's should cover all farms and forests as well as gun ranges

It does... With proper berms and RCMP approval :D

But honestly I wouldn't want every RPAL holder with a loaded pistol in any farm or forest. If they own the land it should be their business what happens there with thier firearms.

My dad had told me when he was my age (30-40 years ago) he bought a revolver and ammo, put the ammo in the side saddle on his bike and holstered the revolver and rode out to the range, legally! Canada used to be fun lol

ATT took about a month to receive. Ya the old NB ATT's required that you receive a letter from the range with an official invitation. This new one just requires that you be a guest at any range that your not a member which here in new brunswick most ranges require you to be any way. My ATT is only good till the end of the year.

thats what i heard... i wonder why no 5 year? only for 6 months sucks!

This will increase their number of calls and provide them more staff and more job security. IMHO they have gone out of their way to find more work since the demise of the LGR. It is a disgusting display of a bureaucracy feeding it's own existence. The feds need to end this ATT crap entirely. A license is all that should be needed.

Wow that sucks. I waited over two months for my RPAL now its been 3 weeks yesterday on my transfer, still haven't gotten either yet. Att hasn't come either, don't even want to know how long those two will take. Sometimes I wish I could get a high paying job for the government doing nothing.

Just bought my first restricted firearm recently. In one week, I had bought, was transfered ownership, and had my handgun shipped from Winnipeg to Qc to my door. Then, last Friday I applied for my ATT and received it today by mail. So it was pretty quick for me.

I just purchased another pistol Monday. Called the RCMP on Wednesday to finalize the transfer (as it was a private sale) after 20 mins waiting on the phone, I finally spoke with a relatively nice lady. Then once she had confirmed the process, said it would take 4-6 weeks to get CFO approval in Ontario! I said "I'm sorry did you say 4-6 weeks?" She replied "yes". So I asked "why so long?" She replied "there very busy". So at this point very frustrated I asked very politely "doing what? I mean I already have restricted firearms. I don't understand?" She simply replied "Its up the CFO" so I said "OK & thanks for your help" I mean really what's the deal? Talk about CFO bullying honest firearm owners.... This type of stuff drives me nuts. Just think of all that wasted money going into system that's there just piss off the honest owners.... Mind blowing! :HR:

Just got my transfer's approved yesterday, so 1 day short of a month for two pistols. Still waiting on my ATT, sent that off over two weeks ago, hopefully it will get here soon as I really want to go out and shoot.

It must make a difference which province you buy from. I live in Qc, bought my Girsan from an Ontario dealer a week ago and the transfer is still pending. On the bright side, when i called the CFO earlier in the week they said i could start my ATT papers with just the transfer reference number, so I've submitted the paperwork for that and hopefully I'll get it at the same time or even before my Giran arrives!

If anyone is wondering about wait times on a ltatt, your looking at 6 weeks. Also still says you need written permission from a member in good standing of the club you want to visit besides your own.

Jeeze.
Alberta had it good!
I have bought 3 restricted, 2 of them from Ontario,
Transfers done within a day if from a business or two days for the private sale within Alberta,
Call get my short term emailed within minutes,
My 1 ltatt that i faxed in the application, got enailed to me the next day, covers any restricted that I hold the registration certificate for, to any approved club range gunsmith or border of Alberta.

This whole BS about ATT's has to stop. What a beuracratic boondoogle. They cant catch the real crooks so they get there jollies from harrassing law abiding citizens.

So when High River residents retrieve there firearms that were illegally seized by the RCMP, do they need an ATT to take them home? If not, why? Is the law being overlooked by the RCMP? I am assuming restricted firearms were also seized.
