Hey guys~I got a call from my local shop saying they got the CCI Segmented HP I ordered in. I'd never tried it, and was curious to see how it shoots from my bolt guns. I also ordered some CCI Quiet 22 for pop-can busting at the farm. :) Anyhow, when I got there...he plopped my brick of CCI Quiet 22 on the counter then a brick of CCI Quiet 22 Segmented HP! I didn't order that and to be honest...I didn't know there WAS a segmented HP CCI Quiet. Seemed kind counter intuitive really...would something moving barely over 700fps actually fragment? I assume CCI have this sorted-out, so I took 4 boxes of it to try anyway. Wondering if any of you guys/gals have tried this particular load...? I thought I kept a pretty close eye on what CCI was doing...guess not. Digging though my emails...I'd given the proper 0074 part # but who cares~a new ammo to try out! Could be interesting for grouse!

After seeing what the regular quiets did to a gopher I will not buy any of the quiets again no matter what they do to it. I found at 50 yards or so they bounce off most targets.

I have used the segmented ammo, but have never heard of the "Quiet" segmented ammo... report back on it.

There is quick segment 1600+ fps and quite segment 700+ fps. At the price there asking for it, I'm to cheap to buy and try just yet. Like some, waiting on reviews.
I bought so mini mags this spring and compared them to my dynapoints/AE 38g, 40g and Fed 525HP.
At nearly twice the cost of Fed and AE, I really didn't see twice the performance. They grouped just better than dynapoints in my su22 and 715T

You shot a gopher with a CCI Quiet? :) Mine are pop can busters and by "mine"...I mean my daughter's. She likes shooting those through her Rascal=no hearing protection. These new Segmented Quiets are nearly double the cost of the standard Quiets and I have my doubts about any performance advantages moving so slowly..but we shall see. Plan to test on a few frozen apples when we get the time. :)

If anyone remembers 22 BBs they moved way slower. Don't know the speed of shorts but I think this is just another gimic. Atleast at slow speeds. At 1600+ fps, it would be interesting to see what a seg HP does to a gopher and what it does after going though it. Or what happens if you miss and hit the ground.

I know that if conditions are clear...and you're shooting the Quiets out past about 50 yards...you can actually see them flying if you're watching through a scope! :) Now THAT'S power! lol Truth be told, I think they're great for plinking, crappy for actual target work...but always nice if you don't want to wear hearing protection or if noise is an issue. .22LR at it's loudest is nothing compared to centerfire, but some people don't like it anyway. My in-laws have an old dog that gets a little antsy in thunder storms, and whenever she hears the crack of a gun going off. So, when I'm around their place, the CCI Quiets are a perfect choice.

Exactly. They are not for every application, but perfect for some. Close range headshots on small game, taking a rabbit or grouse while out deer hunting, or use in enclosed spaces (pest control where legal) or where the neighbours would object. They are quieter than many airguns. I use CB shorts out of a single shot for this sort of application, but it would be nice to have a LR option so I could use a bolt action repeater (box mag) if I wanted.

There is no need for a segmented bullet if you are head shooting grouse or rabbits... For 35+ years we took hundreds of grouse and hares with Sheridan C9 .20 caliber air rifles and Benji HB20 pistols and they net a whopping 13 ft/lb and 5 ft/lb respectively with 14.3 grain pellets... Kills them dead on the spot. I think a 40 grain LR slug at 700 fps will have no trouble... whether it is HP, solid or segmented is moot.

I shot alot of gophers with the cci quiets and they killed them just fine.
The problem I have is they are way too expensive.

I have an old box of 22 shells from my grandfather. The price sticker is from ESSO and the cost was 25 cents. That's for 50. Two years ago I bought AE 5000 rounds for $200 including taxes.
Now they run around $300+ for that many, unless you can find a deal.
Should I be buying a ton and saving them or do you guys think that in a few years the cost will come back down?

Yes, it nocked the gopher over then the gopher proceeded to get up and run away unharmed.

I think that might be a Saskatchewan gopher "thing"...I hear they're extra tough out there. :) The shop brought in the ammo by mistake, I bought some anyway, time to have a little fun with them. Might be a good barn-clearing pigeon round and probably wouldn't pass through the thing...or the roof if I miss.

Just curious. Which dealer had these?

Thanks....

I just got a my local shop to try ordering me some after seeing this thread yesterday. The solid point Quiets make as much noise as a finger snap in my cooey 75 with a 27" barrel.
