Hi everyone. I was wondering how other shooters feel about being filmed while practicing or at matches by people they don't know. I recently found a video of myself running a stage on youtube posted by some one I've never met , and I feel totally offended and kinda creeped out. Has anyone else experienced this ? And am I over reacting?

Some people prefer to keep there shooting lives quiet for a multitude of reasons.
So in that note, no one should film unless they ask permission from the involved persons.

presumably you were on PRIVATE property and not on PUBLIC PROPERTY (aka Crown land), so the person taking pics / movies should (must) ask your permission.

I usually have my camera in tow wherever and whenever I go to an event.
With that in mind, I *ALWAYS* ask the entire group if they'd like to be on camera or not.
I never take it personally if they do not wish to, it just seems like the polite thing to do.
If you see one at an event, a gentle reminder that you would not like to be on camera is well within your right.

Get used to it. Everyone has a camera, you have no control.
And dont be offended, ever. When you are offended, you are in an ego-driven state, which is, ultimately, dis-empowering and a victim mentality. It’s about what you think of you. As long as you think you are worthy and amazing, you don’t need to be offended. It is a waste of your precious time and energy and gives the offender control over you.

Sorry about that, I'm new to shooting and it was my first time watching a three gun comp. Definitely didn't mean to offend. I've removed the video. Sorry about that, I didn't consider that it may offend, and I offer my apologies, it was not my intent to cause an issue.
If you contact YouTube, I believe you can have the video pulled if you was filmed without your knowledge/consent. Also ranges are not public property. Whenever I register for a IPSC match, if I don't sign and date the bottom of the match registration, I have NOT given my consent to be photographed or videoed.
I wouldn't worry about it if I found myself on a YouTube video enjoying my sport. Unless of course I was having a really bad time shooting that stage

I've been photographed and filmed by others without anyone asking and never gave it much thought. As long as someone didn't do something derogatory with the footage I can't see being offended. I think it's a good learning tool to be filmed and also to film others (preferably more experienced). Some people at the range have done really cool videos/photo's to music and I don't recall anyone complaining.
If the match registration is not complete and signed we don't worry as we will not be allowed to compete. I do not see why we should not welcome any exposure to legal,organised and sanctioned events. Our club raises funds for the local hospital and other charities. The question that matters is whether the site was accessible to the public.
Could any member of the public have come and watched the match/practice? Then you have no reasonable expectation of privacy. -- I.E. I don't need your permission to photogragh/video you, nor do I need your permission to post it as part of a blog/vlog/or personal record of an event. If I editorialize it (say something like "This is a video of redneck vigilantes practicing to kill zombies" then I do need permission/a release).

( I write "you" and "I" by way of example, not because I'm actually talking about you)

Just to be clear, at bottom of the match registration form there is a section that I sign & date giving my consent to be photographed and/or videoed during a match for promotional purposes. I'm to cross this area off if I DO NOT wish to have pictures used by IPSC BC or IPSC Canada. This doesn't prevent people from taking pictures or videos at a match.
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing some good video of me shooting the stages. It's a great diagnostic tool to study later.
Any time I shoot a match, I check you tube to see if I managed to make it into any of the posted videos. I film my friends shooting and post the videos, I try to get someone to film me as well, and post that as well. Seldom does the video show the faces, typically the person shooting the video is behind the shooter, tends to be a little safer rather than being ahead of the shooter! Maybe some profiles, but if the guy shooting the video is looking straight back at the shooter, he might not be around to post it to You Tube! Please note, when I say guy, I'm including the girls too!
The day I heard that the Goggle street car had been down my street, I went on-line and searched for my address, wanted to see if I showed up, and anytime I've been to something where the press is there, I check the papers and news to see if they got a shot of me!
I can understand where some might not want their friends and neighbors knowing what they do for a hobby, but if they are anti gun, they probably aren't checking out the videos form the local matches anyways.
Just my thoughts, but also, kudos to the guy that took down the video that offended. A class act.
BTW, I filmed a few of the shooters on stage 5 at the recent Team Hoser 3 gun match, all from behind, if you read this and don't want it posted, say the word. Really only applies to K, the rest of the guys, I will check in person to see if you have any problems,,,,,

On one vacation Champ, Knuckles and Mrs. Champ go on a safari in Africa. Well they get into the jungle and the mosquitos start biting rather badly. Knuckles remembered to bring bug spray so he starts spraying everybody down. He gets to Mrs. Champ and starts spraying her back but Mrs. Champ's attention is elsewhere. Mrs. Champ turns around and Knuckles accidentally gets bug spray in Mrs. Champ's face. Knuckles apologizes to Champ and says, " I'm sorry Champ but I got Off in your wife's mouth". Champ says, Pardon.....
It is VERY difficult to have videos pulled from Youtube. I teach in a high school, and we've had incidents with teachers being videotaped by students using their cell phones and having videos of them posted onto Youtube. Despite local police intervention and repeated requests to Youtube, those videos are still online.
First time I heard that one. Coffee shooting out my nose really burns. Thanks anyway.
