burris over vortex any day of the week!
You can't go wrong with any of them. Look at reviews, some are partial to burris, some to vortex. Depends on what you've owned and had good experiences with. Buy both and sell the one you don't want to keep when you get here...
However, which models are you looking at? Because depending on which models you are looking at, we could have some insight.. There are several models avail from each manufacturer. Burris MTAC is awesome, so is the Vortex Viper to name a few.

Mtac and Viper models are not red dots. They are illuminated variable optics.
The Fastfire is an excellent red dot sight, very low profile and light weight. I actually prefer them to my Eotech's for certain applications. The Sparc and crossfire models never really did it for me and the only red dot made by Vortex that has the same profile as the FF is the Razor. I have never used one and I assume they are great but I just can't justify the price difference between it and the Burris.
