Possible CZ 858 reclassification?

I've seen welded ones. What about them ? How will they find them all ?

Under our asinine, archaic, draconian laws you cannot use converted autos (i.e. modified automatic receivers), they must be scratch built as semi-auto. Send letters...

I am not sure about this. If the auto receiver was never assembled as part of a rifle, the modification (semi only) took place prior to this and then a semi only rifle was built, I do not think it is classifed as auto. If I am wrong about this, how did any 858s get in?

Bingo.

858 receivers, from what ive read, are just referebeshed automatic recievers that are welded to be semi auto. honestly i can hardly believe that the RC's made them non restricted in the first place.

Not so. The VZ58 family includes a lot of types. Some are new-made receivers, think recently made. Some are new-old-stock receivers machined for full auto, but never left the factory and were re-manufactured semi. Allegedly, some few were converted autos and, if true, those would be the problem children that re-classification would be trying to "catch".

The whoel thing is stupid. there are so many of these in Canada now it would be a nightmare to sort out what is legal and what is not. I'd be surprised if they don't either take them all under order in council to take away ambiguity, or alternately, pass legislation to outright legalize all variants that meet Hasselwander.

I have to say, its refreshing reading a bit of optimism in the last page or so. Maybe im young and naive but I still hold out an inkling of hope for some common sense... I wouldnt bet the farm on it... but I have some minute inkling of hope for canada still. And even more hope my first hope is not hopeless...

As of today (2013-06-09) the FRT shows that the CZ858 Tactical 2 (with the 483mm barrel) is still non-restricted, and no notes about its status being reviewed.

I also contacted my source with NWEST (Nation Weapons Enforcement) who indicated that he has heard rumours of the CZ858, but has NOT received anything from the CFC about it being reclassed. He will update me, if he receives anything.

No news is good news?

No they are not. They were left-over receivers from the production of the military rifles and they were modified to be semi-auto as part of the production process - they were never FA firearms - never contain FA parts so they are NOT converted autos.

Anybody notice the number of June 13 noobs piping in as 'experts?' I'd almost want to tell them to go FK themselves. Almost.

Id love to do the same thing with the idiots running around like chicken little engaging in entirely unsubstantiated scare-mongering.

Speaking of rumours, I heard that because of the amount of CZ 858's in Canada(11,000) that they cant afford to pay out $800 a pop so all owners will get a upgrade to 12.(x) status. Also why no more CZ 858's will be sold. ;)

I sold mine a few weeks back. With heavy mods on it. How unfair for the new owner of it gets a re-classified rifle. I'm not Gunna let this one slide at all!!! This rifle. all taxes and parts + gun was 1458.64 cdn. Dollars.
NO ONE has that kinda money to lose. Even if you have more dollars than sense.
This is highway robbery at the least. I didn't vote conservative to have back door prohibition on non restricted firearms
I look forward to reading all the posts on this thread.
It only takes a few minutes to compose a intelligent, well versed letter to your local conservative MP.
And don't forget to flex you're vote as leverage.... After all. (WE) the voting public. Called on them for leadership. I don't feel like they're concerned about (US) anymore.
Power to the people!!!
