When some poor, heroic soul braves to ask the question "Should I reload?", often asked in conjunction with "and do I need a progressive press for pistol ammo?" trolls of fearsome stature and gruesome appearance clamber forth from their rancid, putrid caves. Heaving their massive, warted posteriors up onto dank, foul smelling chairs they raise their swollen, malformed hands, if such can be called hands, to keyboards gooey with unmentionable filth and launch with malevolent intent evil, dark prose to dismay and strike fear into the most stalwart of hero.

These are the Fuddites of Reloading and hearin I name thy number, to their dismay I hope in that I believe trolls cannot abide the light of truth. A futile hope perhaps but mayhap a questing hero may take heart and know that in this battle they are not alone, others have braved this challenge and great joy and bountiful reward await.

The Fuddites of Reloading are three in number.

Chief among them is the Fuddite of Disaster. Its weapon is fear, its ammo is Warranty and Explosion. It is easily recognizable by its insistence that the loading of ammo is no human act, and even as Prometheus stole fire from his Gods, we too steal the thunder from our Gods, of whose ranks are no less than Winchester, Federal, Remington and as Zeus punished Prometheus so too will our Gods punish us by the inevitable double-charge and dishonoured warranty claim. Engage the Fuddite of Disaster at your peril as it hordes images of ka-boom'd Glocks and Smith & Wesson revolvers and just as you believe it defeated perhaps with logic born of multitudes of success it will gleefuly launch its most devastating attack, the infamous, mind numbing scream "it just has to happen once" for which there is no defence. When you hear the approach of a Fuddite of Disaster, do not, I beg engage as often with no response to an initial ka-boom tale, it will get bored and wander off to another thread.

Second among their ranks is the Fuddite of Nihilism. Its weapon is disbelief and its ammo is a seeming inability to do simple math and a sustained attempt to obfuscate the issue by introducing irrelevant arguments. Most often heard commenting that 9MM isn't worth reloading when the OP clearly asked about .45 ACP, the Fuddite of Nihillism will refuse to admit that it makes financial sense for people to reload. Often they will try to appear reasonable by allowing that reloading provides for custom loads and is an enjoyable activity, but this does little to temper their attack since the heroic OP is more interested in saving a few bucks when shooting Holy .45 or heaven's Saintly .38. As with the Fuddite of Disaster, there is little one can to do in direct combat but we can do somewhat to support the heroes quest, and those that come after, by providing our personal, factual experiences and data.

Third and final, is the most insidious, it being both Fudd and Luddite, this evil presence lurks in every thread, ready to pounce as soon as the hero begins to believe again in light and good. This is the Fuddite of Stupid. Its weapon is the single stage press and its ammo is persistent insistence that no person need load more than 100 rounds of Holy .45 in one week. Its armour is a unswayable belief that "its good enough for me so its good enough for everyone". This Fuddite is particularly dangerous as it seems so experienced and trustworthy, acting only in the OPs best interest, but beware as down this path travels many hundreds of dollars and many fruitless hours as the hero attempts to load pistol ammo on a single stage press convinced by the Fuddite of Stupid that this is somehow just as fast, safer and more enjoyable than cranking out hundred of rounds an hour on a good quality progressive press.

No man, or woman, should fear the road of reloading. Down its path lies great enjoyment and no little reward. Be mindful of the Fuddites of Reloading, Disaster, Nihilism and Stupid, as thee would any trollish Fudd. Prepare yourself by reading honourable articles, watching numerous youtube videos on our champions Dillon and Hornady and while the learn and prepare, procure yourself many rounds of factory ammo and save the brass as you will need it or, if not, you can resell it. When thee are ready, and thou will know when that time comes as it will be probably be as thou limit thine mighty Visa buying 1,000 rounds of Holy .45 at $450/case for the third or fourth time that year, buy thyself a mighty progressive, be it Dillon or Hornady, and reload, reload I say at fearsome pace with great joy and wonderment.

One final note, beware the Thieves of Brass, the troublesome brats of IPSC and IDPA whose wickedness knows no bounds as they pilfer thine still smoking brass from under thinefeet and brazenly try to sell it back to thou on CGN at later times.

I just read the "Chapter Titles".

To me it's pretty much the ignorant and the "Chicken Littles" who are the biggest impediments to those trying to learn about reloading.

BTW- there is no such thing as "loads for short barrels".

Me thinks you must live a sheltered life or have to much time on your hands.

Ye fail to warn of the others, Apostolic Church of the Blue, which believe they are the one and only true way to heaven and believe in damnation to those that go the way of the Red Order. Those of the Green ignore both those of the Blue and of the Red, but hold their beliefs closely to their breast. Within the Red Order there is a deep schism with 2 schools both believe they are the way economy and salvation. However the Reds will close ranks upon the approach of the Blue and cast many insults to them (along with rocks, decapping pins, etc) All Orders attempt to draw newcomers to their ranks and teach them the "true path"

;) "A fun post". I certainly found myself in there. You left one category out though, the Fuddite of censorship. Those whose contribution is to post aggressive put downs attacking the character and views of those not in total agreement with hive-thinkers defending purchases and decisions which they've already committed to in error.

"Now we're all covered" ;)

Lot of the latter at the moment...broken bones and plates and screws mixed with a boat load of oxycontin

Should be stickied.
For someone trying to read up and learn about reloading, it would be much easier if they knew the categories of answers they were going to get. The personal biases in reloading are absolutely astounding.
