The MK214 Battle Rifle was designed by Primary Weapons Systems (PWS) as an “urban environment platform for the designated marksman.” The MK214 may be the ultimate medium range battle rifle for survival situations. This rifle has the feel and precision of an AR rifle chambered in 7.62x51mm, while the internal long stroke piston system gives it the reliability of the AK47 it was modeled after, making it an excellent survival rifle. There have been a few changes on the most recent model but the core components are basically the same as the MK214 we are reviewing here.

We waited a long time here at SurvivalCache.com to get our hands on one of the these and when it finally arrived, we weren’t disappointed. Out of the box it was ready to go with Magpul BUIS sights, XT rail panels, 20 round PMAG, MOE stock and grip. Picking it up, the rifle was considerably lighter than other rifles we’ve handled that are chambered in 7.62x51mm. The MK 214 is only 8 lbs 7 ozs, unloaded! The more current model has the Magpul BUIS 2 sights, PWS KeyMod Rail System, and now has free floated handguards as well as an adjustable gas block (great for shooting suppressed).

There's more, read the link.

So when re we going to be able to get one of these!! :ar15:

Not really that revolutionary. MR308, LMT308, and Knights SR25 fit a similar bill. Although the Knights is not piston driven from my understanding.

But PWS has a reputation as a pretty darn good AR maker! I'd have one on my "must buy" list if it wasn't for the whole restricted thing.

The revolutionary thing about the PWS platform is that it utilizes a long stroke piston system with less hammer effect on the BCG. It's actually smoother in operation than the DI system and if you know the AK, you will recognize the operating system right away upon field strip.

Weight and handling are very good with this rifle. Granted I have the 12.5"bbl version, but it is well balanced and comes on target very quickly, as quick as my Mk18 Mod1, in fact, it seems that they did a little work to make sure the extra weight of the piston was considered when making these rifles. As it is, my rifle weighs in at a (very) little over 7lbs with a Troy industries VFG and T-1 on an ADM True Co-Witness mount. It is fast into action, fast to point and handles recoil very well, especially with the Triad flash suppressor on the business end.

I haven't handled the MK21X series yet, but if PWS is as diligent as I believe them to be, they took the same steps with them as well.

I've had my PWS Mk112 Mod0 for a few years now and it ain't just an indoor rifle, I have used it in the sand and dust and snow as well as more than its fair share of rainstorms and even in dirty conditions it has proven to be very reliable. I usually put about 1500-2000rds through it between cleanings and have had no trouble. As it stands, I can take the Mk112 out to 500m and bang on a 20" gong all day with just the T-1. I'm thinking about getting a 3x magnifier to throw on the back for a bit more accuracy at distance.

And PWS makes excellent rifles, there are several (NATO/Non-US) Special Forces units that use them and selected them over LWRCi and HK's piston offerings. They have a 16"bbl model used as an urban DMR/Sniper rifle by several agencies to very good effect.

POF makes a decent rifle, but if it was my coin, I'd drop it on the PWS.
