243 fur friendly load with Varget

When you say fur friendly I would guess that means something that enters but does not exit. 243 is a bit big for that. If you use this caliber you would be looking for a hand load with light bullet, very fragile, speed doesn't have to be top end but should be at least mid range. Trappers I know like the 223 or 204.

I use a 204 myself and love it. Got a buddy with a 243 though just looking for a load thats a bit friendlier then what hes using now.Preferably Varget running low on everything else.

see if you can find some Barnes "Varmint Grenade" bullets. They're supposed to be pretty explosive. My nephew gave me a box of 62 grainers for my .243, but i haven't tried them out yet.
I think I got Wholesale Sports last 500 Varminators (58 gr) when Barnes discontinued them a few years ago. I can push them to right around 3700 fps in my .243 The Lee manual says 41 to 44 grains of Varget for the 58 grain bullets.

I have heard mixed reviews on the varmint grenades. The ones I had used in my 223 were like a fmj. I use vmax with the 223 and there is not fmj affect anymore

A good friend of mine uses his 243 for coyotes and had tryed every combination to save pelts on coyotes.. The one he talked about the most and usuly never has damage from up close to 300 yards is the lightest varmit greneds with a mild does of Varget. The only issue with them he has is out passed 300 is if u hit the shoulder u just got a pissed of coyoted with a busted up shoulder. There just to explosive for hitting heavy bone. That being said he did say his tikkla loves the 58gr V-Max and there the next best on pelts..
Just my thoughts

I shoot the 87 v max. I like how it works, but it sometimes is hard on hides. Don't use varget!!! It wont work- Send it to me & I'll send you something different!!! :) LOL Varget is impossible to get here. Good luck. AJ

Hodgdon shows 34.0 to 36.5 of Varget for a 90 grain bullet. Just happened to be a Speer they tested, but you must work up the load for your rifle.
Speer 90 grain FMJ's make a puncture hole in a ground hog. No exit hole. Haven't ever used Varget myself, but IMR4350 works well.
"...I would guess that means..." Usually means a small entry hole with little or no exit hole. Any varmint bullet will make a big hole in anything. That's what they're designed to do. FMJ's, commercial FMJ's not military ball, are designed for hide hunting.
