285 grain Lapua mega

I ran some factory Lapua 285g mega loads through a 9.3x62 in a T3. Freakishly accurate (if you notice, the measurement is taken from the outside edge), but severe recoil in a rifle that light. I actually sheared the recoil lug off a set of Warne rings.

2-7x Burris, so not particularly heavy. The rifle is just too light for the round, IMHO. It would be a great rifle to carry a long was in grizzly country though. To do it again, I would use optilocks.

Strangely enough, I still found it more comfortable to shoot than my .300 RUM.

My Son uses the same rifle, a T3 lite stainless in 9.3 with a similar glass but with optilock rings and has had no issues.
Its his first choice for Elk hunting and is more than adequate for that.

I can't imagine a better elk rifle. Not for a fan of the .360 Wagner, that is.

A while ago, Ted and I got into a discussion concerning these bullets and he had noticed how closely they resembled the Previ. I wonder which came first? Other than the obvious, the Lapua comes in a pretty blue box while the Previ arrives in a plastic bag, I also wonder if there is any advantage to choosing the designer priced Lapua bullet over the journeyman priced Previ. The 285 Previ over H-414 clocked 2467 in my rifle, which is where I quit, as this was already a compressed load, and I dislike compressed loads. He might chime in here, but I believe Ted worked up a 2500 fps load but it seems to me he prefers a faster powder, although I don't recall which one. I must be waiting for a special occasion to shoot up the blue box bullets, as much of that box remains untouched.::redface:
