Sig Sauer 226 Enhanced Elite: What you should know ?

Greetings Gun Nuts! Seriously considering getting one of these as first restricted ( in 9mm) , what's the good the bad and the ugly from those who have had the pleasure of owning / using this Sig ?

I can't say any negative things about Sig. They are the Rolls Royce of guns! If you are in the GTA, you are going to want to go to Target Sports as they have the largest inventory of Sig Sauer I know of :) Padawan, if your buddies are looking for the Navy model, they should look into the combat model because everything is practically the same but the gun comes in an awesome Flat Dark Earth finish. All you don't get is the little anchor on the side. The one down side of Sig which isn't really even an negative if you are particular is that some of the Sig's have a plastic guide rod. I was just mad because when you fork out so much, they cheap out on that one thing. In the end, you can't go wrong with a Sig!

I agree with Target Sports, thats where i bought my TacOps. It's the Enhanced Elite they are looking for.

Oops! Sorry, I got caught up in the poster above you. If you are not looking for the Stainless Steel edition and are ok with the black version, they have one on consignment, very low round count like 100-150 in pristine condition and I think they might have a new one in either the P229/P226 variant. But they don't have the Stainless model. I don't know why they don't make a better website so we can tell what there inventory is without having to drive up there! Hope that helps.

First off thanks for the info so far.

Padawan : I have not seen anyone with it in stock but Wantsall's is having a Sig demo day later this month (in Hamilton) and mentioned in their post that a lot of models that are usually unavailable will have short delivery times. I believe Wolverine should have some by September.

I picked up an enhanced elite a couple years ago. I had sigs before that and had a lot of rounds through them.

The SRT is a nice improvement over the stock triggers. E2 grips work better for me then the old orange peel types. I personally don't care for the beavertail at all, to the point that I'm considering getting rid of it based on that, I guess after several tens of thousands of rounds through a standard 226 the beavertail is just odd feeling. I am seriously considering replacing it with a regular 226 with e2 grips, srt, and short trigger. My enhanced elite did not come with the short trigger which I was informed it would.

Personally if I was to do it again I would get a 226 put together the way I wanted, but that's just me. The EE is a great gun and would serve most people very well.
 
I got an Enhanced Elite 9mm back in Feb. from Wolverine, can't say anything bad about it ( except I can't stop feeding it ammo :) ) It is my first handgun and I spent a lot of time looking and trying and this one felt the best for me. I like the feel of a metal gun vs polymere ones, and I like the beavertail on it. I actually ordered the 226R in .22 cal recently because I love shooting this platform so much and .22 is much cheaper to shoot. I was able to try a few different styles before buying and If you can it's the best way to get a feel for it. I don't think you will be disappointed. Good luck with whatever you purchase.
 
Sigs are really good guns but they don't really suit me. If this is your only pistol, and you plan on any competition shooting, the 226 enhanced elite may be class limited. In IDPA I can shoot a CZ 75 SP01 Shadow in 2 classes. It is a SA/DA that can be cocked and locked - so I can use in ESR (SA - with manual safety engaged in holster) and SSR (double action first pull - no manual safety holstered). AFAIK, the 226 EE doesn't have a manual safety thus you can only shoot it in SSR, same class as Glocks and other striker fired pistols.

I also don't like the feel of the 220/226s, personal choice, trigger feels kinda mushy - guess I'm spoiled by my Shadow. I do however, really like their 1911s - got one on the way.
 
triplepete: I did not know that it would be class restricted so thanks a lot for chiming in because competing is my intention. What should i know about holsters for competition?

cp220: I was considering the p226R German made and then adding the srt but then discovered the elite and liked the idea of getting what i want " stock" . I am new to pistols so hopefully the beavertail would not be an issue.

thenewbieglockguy : Did not know about the plastic guide rod and found a stainless steel alternative online and they do ship to Canada! probably the only mod.

Last night I was able to compare the 229 and 226 elite in person ( thanks to the awesome guys at Target ) and it looks like the p226EE has my heart. It has the best feel of everything tried so far ( ergonomically correct with my long fingers ) and seems to be reliable from what you guys said.

So it looks as if my first is going to be

226 Enhanced Elite with stainless guide rod.

OK i think you got it. So SIG made the skinny plastic “new style grips” to make people with small hands happy and you find it ok while you have long fingers?
You sure about “ergonomically” or how you call it? I suggest go back to Target pay the fee and shoot a SIG or if you have a problem with that i can bring one of mine and let you shoot it. I only say this because every month they are a ton of SIGs for sale and all people i know can’t shoot them. if you have big hands/long fingers look into a SIG with wood grips as being a fat grip will put your finger in the right spot. While SRT is nice for normal/large hands is a problem. But again just looking to help a new guy and have one more “look I’m shooting low” situation solved. Btw if you find Glocks being the right size grip you will have problems down the road playing with SIGs. You guys need a normal plain jane Sig and use the left over money for ammo. Once again just trying to help (hate to see you posting that gun for sale next month).

I have both Sigs and Glocks. Have no problem shooting either accurately at all when switching between the two at the range. SRT trigger gives me no such problem as to 'shooting low' nor do I find the take-up or actually pull mushy. They do take a couple hundred rounds to get smooth like butter but they are still great out of the box! But to each his own as they say! You will not be disappointed Gatorade. Let us know when you get it and how you like it!

PS: Did you see that used P226 Enhanced Elite .40 deal they there for $1000 + a couple boxes of free ammo? Thats not a bad deal and it looks brand new. Might safe you a couple bucks so you can plink around more :)
 
Rofl Thanks Sig your feedback is appreciated! I did not shoot it so that is a good idea. Here is the thing, my hands are not huge, my palms are average but my fingers are a little long for my hand ( large motorcycle gloves work). The regular 226 worked, the wood grips felt ok but the E2 grips just felt great and seeing I am a pistol virgin do you think I could still have "shooting low" issues?
 
There is a big difference between the grips….all I’m saying is to me what you said is a bit ??????
I know few guys that never liked the original grips as they are a bit on the big side. Same people jumped on the E2 versions when they first made them. Personally i like the aluminum grips as they make the perfect size. One has a tendency to flinch to the left and low with the Glock grip and low with the Sigs grip. Now you want large motorcycle gloves and like the smallest Sig grip. Hope you get my point. Versus issued guns where you train to the grip get something that fits your hand.
