heard that 5" 625 45 acp models had been available a few months back new. importer says they are now out of stock. anybody seen one of these around, i would love to find one.

cheers

Available in 3",4",and 5". Prefer the 3" myself, but a nice easy shooting revolver. As they all have RB's and custom grips are everywhere , pretty easy to make them fit you. - dan

I have an order in with Ahrends for a set of Retro Combats in moradillo wood for mine. Delivery runs about 10 weeks so I'm looking at early-mid July. They're arriving unfinished and I have a bottle of Tru-Oil waiting. I doubt I'll be disappointed from what I've heard about Kim's work.

Smith no longer makes 5 inch model due to lack of demand I was told by rep at NRA convention. Four inch in demand for IDPA USPSA and Concealed carry but not for us Canucks.

thats what i thought, yet an importer told me they had some a few months back. special run?

Send an email to S&W asking them to consider producing the gun in a 4.2" length for CDN market and IDPA. It worked for the 686, although the Ruger G{-100 likely helped the decision by Smith along.

I was shooting my 625 yesterday. It was having a problem i have had before. Sometimes when I pull the trigger double action, the cylinder would not turn.

I thought something was wrong with the gun,but each time I tested it at home (empty) it worked just fine. Problem must be with the ammo in the gun.

A fellow at the range (a revolver guy) suggested the problem could be a bent moon clip. Sure enough, when i lay the empty clips on the table, a few are not flat. They cause the cylinder to bind up. I probably bent them stripping the empty cases without use the de-clipping tool.

Have you tried the RIMZ polymer moonclips? Not as durable as the old-fashioned steel ones, but they're pretty good. Also, there is a dandy mooner/demooner from mooncliptool.com. They unfortunately won't take Canadian orders but if you have a friend in the US, they could send one to you as I doubt they are ITAR restricted.

was going to suggest this, then you had it in your post LOL...yeah, no moon clip revolver does well with bent clips. I haven't tried the RIMZ, they're impossible to bend, but i've been told they are not rigid enough for doing speed loads IDPA style with....

You can make a really great de-mooner by grinding half the diameter of a half inch piece of copper pipe away far enough down to slide over the case, and sit against the edge of the clip. drill a hole thru the other end and put a long 1/4" bolt through to make a t handle. then it just slips over the case and cams it out of the clip, and doesn't bend anything, and is still easy to drop in your range bag.

I have the plastic moonclips as well. They are very floppy and not suitable for quick reloads. Great for plinking and real easy to load and unload. I happen to own 2 de-mooner tools but one day i could not find either one, so did the job by hand. That is when some clips got bent.

ROFL me too ;) bent clips i mean, not the RIMZ....i have a gift for leaving stuff at home

And that's why I shoot 45 AR in mine, just so much easier. - dan

but so slow on the reload....in practice i can change out a moon clip as fast as i can reload a 1911, very occasionally i can do it faster. but if your just target shooting or plinking on the range, yeah, auto rim is the way to go by a long shot (pun intended)
