ISSC MK22 or SR22? Help me make up my mind! (update: went with the SR22)

So iv been wanting a SR22 for awhile and recently decided to buy one but haven't been able to find one. While I was looking I came across the ISSC MK22 which I hadn't seen before....now im torn between the two. From what I have read on here the MK22 has some issues with FTFs and FTEs and doesn't like certain types of ammo. Im not partial to either of the looks, I like both...I would get both if I could but I have to pick one.

So far im thinking...

Ruger SR22
Cons: Cant find one, doesn't come with sights

Pros: Proven reliability, aluminum parts


ISSC MK22
Cons: reliability issues, plastic parts?

Pros: Available. comes with full rails and irons, bolt locks back on empty mag?

Iv held and shot the ruger so I know I like that one but haven't held the ISSC MK22. Any input would be great, especially if you have owned both.

I recently bought an MK22 and love it. After 500 or so rounds through it I have had no light strikes and only only a few failure to feed. Never fired an SR22 so I can't compare them.
 
Does it feel solid? Im worried it will feel cheap/plastic...iv held the Mossberg tactical .22 and was not impressed. I also have a Tavor so im not opposed to plastic bodies as long as there ridged and not flimsy feeling. I was worried that stock would feel flimsy because it folds...does it click into place solid?

I should probably try to find one locally that I can hold and take a closer look at.

What ammo are you using with yours, can you use the cheap blazer ammo? How did you find it was to clean, easy to take appart?

I keep reading all these reviews about screws coming loose and stripping and the bolt getting lose and causing FTFs...im somewhat leaning toward the SR22 as it sounds like it may be better build...more metal parts and a more proven design. Problem is going to be finding one.
 
Re: finding the SR22. I looked for one for months...in bigger towns/cities, with zero luck. They either had not ordered any to begin with, or they had, and sold out in a couple of hours. I'd just about given up on finding one, and on a recent trip to Winnipeg I walked into a sporting goods store in a smaller community in Manitoba and found one sitting on the shelf...same place it had been for months. I bought it of course, but I've since seen one more in another small-town gun shop in Saskatchewan. You may have better luck looking around in some of the smaller stores, smaller towns, away from big metro areas. They seem to be less likely to sell out as fast.
As for the SR22; I'm biased because I own one, but it's a fantastic little rifle. VERY solid and well built, way more accurate than I ever expected it to be out of the box, super easy to customize it and make it YOUR rifle. I've shot the Mossberg and the S&W...I'd have to really think about it if the S&W weren't restricted, but I think the SR22 is a bit more accurate. The Mossberg (at least the one I shot) rattled around, didn't shoot well, and seemed to have a FTF every 8-10 rounds...it felt like a toy in comparison.
 
Just picked up my SR22 last week. Took it out to the range with a couple buddies and they were drooling at how much fun it was to shoot. Put about 150 rounds of Remington value pack ammo through it with no issues. I too was unable to find a SR22 anywhere in BC let alone in any other province close by. Ended up finding one at Al Simmons Gun shop out in Ontario. Called in and they said they had a bunch still left, Ordered it on Monday, had it by Friday. No regrets spending the money for this rifle!
 
I dont own an ISSC but have its similar cousin Anschutz version. From what Ive seen on here, both have a very similar or identical receiver and stock.
Mine is a newer version which Im sure newer ISSC models will follow...solving the Ftf and Fte problems and mine works fine. But I do have to say, its no treat to take apart. The worste part is the two screws that have to be removed from the receivers side, to begin disassembly. You have to insert a screwdriver in opposite sides at the same time and twist in opposite directions to get these two screws out. Stupid design. The simple solution to this was to replace both with the small HK pins which Ive done,, thx to some good advice given by other CGNers.
No matter which one u decide on, there are lots of owners of each available for any advice.

I have both. Sr-22 feels more solid (after switching out the stock for a magpul ctr), and is much easier to disassemble and clean. Sr-22 also has many more 3rd party accessories and parts available. But I really enjoy shooting both. It's tough finding a good reliable high capacity magazine that doesn't look like a skinny banana for the sr22. Check on rimfire EE, you'll see them both come up for sale every now and then.

Thanks for this...iv decided to stick with the SR22 base one what you said here. I like a solid feel and the SR22 felt good and solid, I figured it would be a bit more solid feeling then then ISSC. Also im not a big fan of guns that are poorly designed in regards to cleaning, they should be easy to take apart, preferably with no tools.

I still like the look of the ISSC so ill probably buy one as my second 22. The Ruger will be my first .22, I only own stuff in .223 and up and was never really interested in them but ammo is freaking expensive and someone at the range let me try there sr22, I was surprised it was still quite a bit of fun without a big bang and kickback.

I am looking on EE but there usually gone by the time I can get into contact with the person...plus I tend to like to buy new and do everything myself as far as mods go.

I owned an MK22....sold it after shooting my buddy's SR22. There's no comparison. MK feels like a toy after holding the SR.

The MK had a few screws strip out of it and the sights that came with it were garbage. Not to mention the mags are like $50. I had a few failure to extract with blazers on the MK but no real huge issues. It shot ok, just felt like a toy. Just one opinion though.
 
Enjoy my SR. Slightly heavier but well worth the weight. Al Simmons in Hamilton where I got mine. Tricked it out with Iron eagle rails and Tacticool Barrel shroud.
 
You may have overlooked option 3:


Ruger 10/22 in a Troy Industries T-22 chassis. It's about a pound lighter then the SR22, also comes with sights. I got this as a package and it cost about the same as the SR22 (minus the bipod). Take a look at how much Troy BUIS cost and you'll know which is a better deal.
 
That looks cool, is it an aluminum stock just like the SR22? Only problem is for this I would have to find a 10/22 which seem almost impossible to find as well.

As I said this rifle was purchased as you see it, brand new. Sounds like you have to wait for an SR22 anyway, so if your interested call Jason at IRUNGUNS and see if he plans to offer this package in the future. I can't speculate on a wait time because mine was in stock when I bought it a few weeks ago. Yes this is an aluminum chassis similar to the Nordic chassis on the SR22, but IMO better in many ways.
