Remove Norinco CQ Gas Block Pins ?!

Can't get 'em out. Punched them hard. They moved about 1/16 of an inch, but no further. Are these things even pins????
 
get a dremel and cutting disk... them f**kers wont go by pounding. They did something that satan himself wouldn't do to us. Got two Norcs that changed out the blocks on. if you wanna save the blocks you'll need a drill press to drill the pins out or find a hydraulic press.
 
I heated them with a torch and that seemed to take some of the hardness out. I was able to drill them with a cobalt bit after pounding a flat onto the top of the pin.
 
They will come out quite easily if you know how. Remember, the have round heads, not flat heads and come out left to right as you look at the top of the front sight housing from the receiver side. Use a nail setting punch, they are a little hollow on the tip, it fits that round head and you can get them started. They are taper pins and just need to get started, then they will come out.

So you hammer them? Do you have a jig or how do you hold the gun?
 
I'd pay good money to have a gas block installed the way they are on Norc AR's (as long as it was straight!). Think long and hard about why you want to remove it. If you want a low profile gas block just dremel it down, you won't find a more robust aftermarket block.

Yep, hammer away. Just remember to have the barrel supported in a really good, tight, padded vice. It's better if you have the barrel off the receiver but it can still be done attached.

I'm north of Edmonton if you want to come out and I'll take them out for you, providing you haven't buggered them up too bad. I didn't notice where you are from.

I'm just looking to get it off to change the gas tube. The one on it's buggered.
Is removing the gas block the only way to swap the tube??
 
Just knock the roll pin out and feed the tube through the receiver. If for some strange reason the tube won't feed into the receiver, cut it in half (if it's junk anyways) and pull it out the front.

This is important. You can't wail on the pins with the gun supported in your lap or in mid air. It needs to be supported on something solid so the pins take the full force of the hits.

Don't use a brass punch and your daintiest ball peen hammer ;)
 
+1 on proper support. brownells makes a block for this. A good rule for hammers is that its better to swing a bigger hammer with control than going chimpanzee with a 16 oz ball peen.
 
Those pins can be super tough, I was using a super short punch and hitting it with a 4 pound hammer and they wouldn't budge until I drilled them 25% of the way through.
 
The brownells gas block holder is really nice for this. It supports the gas block so you can hammer, oh and definetly get a big hammer and some solkd punches preferably the ones with the rounded tips so it will cup the pin. And just when you think about giving up, don't, keep hamering because it is a ##### and easily without a doubt the hardest part of breaking down an AR. Goodluck.
 
using a dremmel, I grineded down the sight block beside the pins, so as to relieve resistance on the pins themselves, but not destroy the block/sight completely. after that, the pins hammered out quite easily with hammer and a few roll pin punches. Use a starter punch first (the tappered one) then use the straight pin punch once you get going.
