Hello Hunters,

My brother and I are new to hunting, planing to do a deer hunt this coming season.

I'm having some trouble figuring out what is legal in the various WMU's

We're looking to hunt in 74A. The website lists 74A as not having an open gun season.. is that just for antler-less? or is that for any deer hunting activities?
Also, is there a specific open season in ontario, or is it determined purely by the WMU's? The Hunter's Ed course did not teach how to wade through the ministry information...

Help please! Just want to know when i can use my .270 to take home our first buck.

Regs show 74A as having a 2 week season in November, bows, shotgun and muzzleloaders only.
And a December week as bows and muzzleloaders only.

Also there are 3 bow only dates in the regs for 74A.

It's all in the regs start learning how to read them now.

Better hang up the .270 and buy a muzzleloader or shotgun.

Time to buy a bow and slug gun. Muzzleloader would be ideally because you could use it for two gun hunts. Buy a crossbow and muzzleloader. Cover all the seasons.

Good for you and your brother, do you have someone who can take you and show you the ropes? Maybe look at trying to join an existing group, maybe join a gun club to meet people.
If you’re having trouble with the regulations read them over a few times and ask a mentor or call the MNR.
If the area you were looking at doesn’t allow rifles move to another WMU. Page 66 in the regulations this year pretty much explains the firearms allowed and the dates. Within a few hours of Toronto there are several areas that allow rifle hunting for deer.
