I am using my vibrating tumbler to clean brass with small walnut media which works good and gets inside nice. The 308s are fine when picking them out just flip them upside down and the media all falls out, but the 223's I actually have to tap and shake every piece of brass to get all the media out which is pretty tedious when doing 300 of them. Is there a faster way to do this or am I stuck with what I am doing?

Rotary tumbler with steel media is the fastest and most effective. Also the most expensive, however one with a huge capacity can be made for less than $200 in materials, less if you are resourceful in sourcing parts and/or already have the expensive components (like the motor and drum) on hand.

Is there some sort of moisture involved or does that media just bind up ?
I've been using corn cob and it just slides right out my 223.

I heard walnut is better tho', was thinking of giving it a try.
Are you happy with the results it's giving you ?

I scoop them out with a big slotted kitchen spoon, grab them in my hand and hold them against the inside rim of the tumbler for 2 seconds while it is still running.

use a media separator that fit over a 5 gal pal and it should work good, it would be the cheapest option right now. otherwise switch to stainless steel media.

I got one of these on sale at a hardware store.

I have the media, I got 25 lbs of fine walnut media at the pet store for 20$. Compared to 20$ for like 5-6lbs at the gun store, its cheap. I find it gets them to where I want them after about 2 hours of tumbling and I threw in a little car wax. It doesn't plug the flash holes, it just is inside the casing and you have to dump each one out. Looks like I will find a media separator or one of those cage pots would work well. Thanks guys.
