Hey Koldt - dimes to dollars those scopes are still considered ITAR Controlled Goods.Pretty sure I saw de-milling instructions for them at work, just sayin'... Of course, it was probably divested before all that nonsense came in.
Well the Hutterites in Manitoba bought pallets full of them from Crown auctions years ago. And various other private companies have bought a lot of them through Crown assets as well. I've looked at dozens and put together numerous over the last 10-15 or so years.
In the US they advertise ITAR controlled as being Gen2+. I am told even the PVS4 without upgrades, a Gen2, can be exported etc without ITAR approval.
"...with the use of a small butane torch..." Faked. Real tiger stripes come on maple. Has to do with the tree getting blown around and/or twisted by the wind. Said trees come from the sides of hills, as I recall. Deceased buddy of mine had it explained to him by an old time logger.
Cannon fuse, I think it was(saw it in a gun rag years ago) laid on the unstained wood and lit will do it as well. Might have just been bits of string though. I remember everything I read, but never where I saw it or when. Not always in context either.
It's not confined to maple. It's pretty common in English Walnut as well.
