I'm getting ready to order a stock for a recent build, a manners stock to be specific, I'm torn between the eh1 @1.6lbs, or the t2 @2.2lbs. The stocks are nearly identical aside from the elite hunter having a new fill, and the t2 having a wider forend (which I would prefer) so my question is what's the average weight of a composite stalk, wood stock. And how much am I going. To notice that .8lbs of difference?
Normally I have wood stocks on all my rifles, and I'm not sure what they weigh. But I pack my model 70 all day regularly.

Is 2.2 lbs too heavy for a hunting stock?
Thanks in advance.

.300 win mag, model 70 action, (stainless)
i haven't decided on barrel or length yet. was think #5 contour, 26 inch. but uncertain whether it would be fluted or not. maybe #5, 5r rifling fluted 24"
i'm not terribly worried about recoil. but at the same time... years from now i may be terribly worried about recoil.
tough decisions.... as always.

That's already going to be out of the ultralight category. One other thing to consider is that some of the really light weight stocks may not be rated to handle .300 recoil levels. I don't know specifically about what you are considering though.

Btw the weight difference is .6 lbs, not .8.

That is a long, heavy barrel. You will want a heavier stock otherwise it will be very front heavy with that barrel. My friend went with a #3 Douglas contour for his 7mm RM and it is, imo, just about a perfect balance between a heavy and pencil barrel. Bill Leaper put him onto that contour and Dennis Sorensen was the gunsmith. Most factory sporter stocks I have weighed came in around 30 to 34oz or so ( right around 2lbs - 32oz).

A #5 contour Pac-Nor with your action will weigh about 6 3/4 lbs - add 2.2lbs for the heavier stock, and a bit for your scope mounts and you are over 9lbs. Depending on your scope you will be right around 10lbs. Take a lighter 24" #3 Douglas, plus the lighter Manners and your pre scope weight will be somewhere around 7.5 lbs. The barrel is ~.9 lbs lighter and the stock is .6lbs lighter. That is, imo, a significant difference.
