Good point^

But really though it goes like this...

RCMP: "we've managed to back track through (supposed deleted/destroyed) LGR data base that you at one time owned a NR Swiss Arms rifle. Are you still in possession of that rifle?"
Joe Blow: "No i sold that rifle to Steve ...#### what was his last name again...libberman...lobberman...luberman...hell i cant remember,i wasn required to store all his info...i was only required to make sure his possess a valid pal which he showed me"
RCMP:"You're lying, you still have the rifle"
Joe Blow: "No"

Add/change above statement with literally dozens of plausible explanations why you no longer possess that rifle and why you dont remember/know who does

Now im certainly not advocating lying to the RCMP and being in possession of a Prohibited firearm...but its really that simple.

Now if the question is ,is it a smart thing to do to lie to the RCMP and be in possession of a prohibited firearm..well then obviously no its not and if i owned a Swiss Arms id prolly turn it in if it were to become prohibited...with compensation of course. I guess its lucky for me(or unlucky) i sold mine before any of this nonsense came about.

If the SAN is ruled prohibited, the normal non-restricted rules for transfer aren't going to apply ("Mike in Canmore" isn't going to cut it). The only way I see most of these going underground is if there's no accompanying offer of compensation. As they say: "Money talks and bullish*t walks."

I don't see what the problem is. I wouldn't even pay $500 knowing that it could be worth zero in a few days.

Likewise, there could be some nervous sellers out there who would rather have a few dollars instead of zero.

WTB ad seems reasonable under the circumstances.

Sounds to me like the rcmp is going to have a fiasco on their hands. If someone bought one after the lgr, and sold it, then it was sold again, the chances of tracking it down are slim. Add it all up and you're talking thousands of man hours and millions wasted. This really is an absurd decision.

Seems like it would be a great investment at $500.
Option a) Classed as a prohib - Govt. buy back your $500 becomes $3400
Option b) Stays non-rest. You just got a $3400 gun for $500.

If I owned one, I'd keep it.

I doubt the government will reimburse that amount or anywhere near that, good luck selling that rifle to all the dealers and prohib owners if this goes through...

Do you honestly think the government will lowball when there intent is to have people come forward? what would be the point of any compensation at all? if I was trying to entice a fat guy out of a hole I would use the whole pizza not a slice!!
there are going to be a lot of hurt feelings here real quick if this goes through and as stated "I will burn it before I give it away"

If this goes through the RCMP won't need to track them down. You will voluntarily turn it in (hopefully with compensation) or you will be in possession of a prohibited $3400 paperweight. If you get caught using it you will be a criminal and they will take the rest of your firearms as well.

This thread is going nowhere. Relevant info has been posted and we have wandered off topic as usual.
Motion to lock while we wait for some real info on the reclassification.

I doubt anyone will take the gamble...remember that they are gambling too...if they are deemed to be non-restricted, then they have lost a boat load of $$$. I would rather deal with it being prohibited than sell it for little and have it non-restricted.

If worse comes to worse, and you have to turn them in, make sure you strip off all non-regulated parts (everything except the receiver).

Mangle the receiver, but make sure the serial# is not damaged.

Turn over the hunk of mangled scrap.

My buddy was one of the few owners of the BD38. Before he turned it in he JB welded the entire gun. Filled the bore, and Jb welded the receiver closed. He still got the full payout for it.

For sure if i am to loose it, i will have a load of fun with my new 24 volt ion-lithium battery Bosh Zip cut grinder, and cut it all down in tiny pieces, filming the hole scene and showing to some fellow shooters, what i do to a rifle that wont group, in stupidy might as well have some fun... JP.
