Hey folks, check out the Savage site on the new B-Mag in the new .17 Winchester Super Mag.
3000fps. with a 20gr. bullet. Will the rimfire, high speed sillyness ever end?

The rifle itself has features I like such as a decent, rear locking action, Accutrigger and headspace
adjustable, threaded barrel. The bad part is the cartridge it is chambered for. It goes in direct
competition with the Hornady .17 Hornet centerfire... and is non-reloadable!

If these guys were thinking properly, the new B-Mag rifle should have been made in .17 Hornet as
it is the right size for the cartridge. They could also chamber it in other numbers as well, like
7.62X25 and .22 Hornet rather than use the Model 25 action which is too big and ungainly looking
for the Hornet length cartridges.

I think the 17 hmr fills that gap between hot rim fire and centre fire. It's already fairly popular, not sure if there's a place for this cartridge. Alright if you don't reload I suppose. Bulk 223 is pretty cheap too.
 
I want to know if it shares head diameter with .22lr

If so that action would make for a great, cheap base towards a decent shooting .22lr

If not, meh.

Agree. To some people It could always be bigger faster stronger better... Even if there is absolutely ZERO reason for it. Personally I think people get too wrapped up in what the ballistics look like on paper, and focus too much on the numbers rather than rationally thinking about what difference it will make in the real world. It's a sick human condition to never be satisfied with what you have, and always want something a little better even if it's not necessary.

Mind you I'm also the type of person who despite the ability and financial means to buy a new truck, still drives around in my beat up old' '92 F-150 because I'm not materialistic. I don't need a new truck until this one is toast. Whereas MOST of my friends wouldn't be caught dead the same truck for more than 5 years in a row, and it has to have a lift kit and tonneau cover because they don't actually use the bed of the truck anyway 364 days of the year... It's all just for show and grunts... The new trucks, new guns, new quads, wardrobe, status etc.

I know what you mean... I'm half like you, half like your friends. I like my toys, and I have been known to rationalize "unnecessary" modifications, but I'd much rather start with a cheap base and spend that money building it up to how I want it, rather than buying the latest and greatest and replacing a bunch of parts. I'm happy with good enough for me... Chances are, my skills are the limiting factor more than the equipment.

I do too, like I said its the human condition and I'm just as guilty as anyone at times. My last "project" was a CZ scout that I tricked out to the nines because I convinced myself it would be the ultimate... Only .22 I'd ever need. All was said and done and I thought, what the hell do I need this for? The monetary value of the build had greatly exceeded its practical value to me so it got parted out and scavenged in the EE and the money went into a new garden fence... Something I really needed. I find myself once again happier than a pig in slop shooting a bone stock marlin 60. I know better now and won't ever change a thing about it... (riiiiiight (rolls eyes...))

Haha, well, I partially rationalize it by saying it's a learning experience. Sure, I know people say you should do this or shouldn't do that, and a lot of them speak for experience, but sometimes you just need to try something yourself to figure out if it's worth it. Case in point: Your CZ. If not for that, you probably wouldn't have learned as much about shooting .22's as you did (unless this isn't the first time you've done it...).

Having said that: I'm all for new cartridges, as long as they serve a purpose and fit well in the grand scheme of things. It's tough to get something like that off the ground otherwise, especially if you're the only one producing it, and the only one producing firearms for that cartridge as well. Unless, of course, it's some badass gun that everyone wants to have, even though the ammunition is hard to get...
