Well... Sure glad I have my 858. This new CCSR looks like crap anyway, IMO.
I've heard this a couple of times and I don't get it. It looks exactly like an AK. In fact, dimensionally, it is exact. If you at all like the look of an AK, you should in the very least like the look of this. There is a wood furniture one as well if it is the synthetic that is turning you off.
i bet they are using parts of a rifle they already have going, hence the reason for the AK mags. i can't see them making a rifle from scratch, just for canadians when the american market is so large and Ak mags are a plenty.
I know it's illegal to convert any firearm to fully-automatic, but is it illegal to convert any firearm to semi-automatic?
For example, let's say I found a way to convert my Winchester Model 70 bolt-action to semi-automatic, and it only has a five round magazine. Have I broken any law by doing so? (I'm not saying it's feasible on that particular model of rifle, just "Would it be illegal?")...
They did modify Lee Enfield .303 bolt action rifles to be semi-auto during WWII, so it's not like it's completely impossible.
For example, the Charleton Semi-Auto Rifle:

It ain't pretty, but it was done.
So, if it is legal to convert a bolt action rifle to semi-auto, then legally what would be the problem with converting the CSR bolt action rifle to semi-auto, other than the obvious fuddery and misunderstandings about what it started out as?
Converting the CSR, which is NOT an AK or variant, to semi-auto should be no different than converting any other bolt-action to semi-auto, legally speaking.
My opinion: This is what happens when you don't listen to the community and take a chance on something you think is a good idea.
Almost 10 years a member, witnessing all flavors of fail on CGN, this one takes the cake.
Very true...and funny.

No, it would not be illegal, but since you've fundamentally altered the action of your firearm, you're going to have to send it to the RCMP to have them classify and give the OK on it. Someone is free to correct me if I'm wrong but that's how I've come to understand it.
Whether they would or not - I'm leaning to not. I don't think TW will be able to get an FRT for a SA Interarms either, regardless of the fact it may not have any interchangeable parts with a Tantal or AK. They will simply ban it because it looks and functions like an AK. If you've seen their press statement regarding the 858 family of rifles, it's pretty much a dead giveaway that they don't care about playing by the rules.
I think your missing the point here, the CSR isn't a fail its possible the best thing ever. Sure it's a bolt action but that just opens the possibility for some not so proprietary regular capacity mags. Not only that but these are non restricted do you know what that means? The RCMP said this in not an AK variant since it would be prohibited if it was, so a semi auto variant of the CSR is therefore technically not an AK variant its a CSR variant which isn't an AK. See not so bad after all.
