Chilean production of a Swiss gun to Swiss specs. Plus, these guns are used by the Chilean army, so FAMAE most likely knows how to turn out a decent product. Also, the FAMAE SAF's have been here for a long time, and there are no quality issues that I'm aware of. Just saying...

Fair point - 'don't know of any quality issues re: the FAMAE SAF's, BUT - somwthin' about getting the object of your desires from the original source is appealing, and often better idea (resale wise)
For example:
CZ - Czech Republic or USA?
SIG - Germany or USA?
That's an endless list - my money would be (and is) on the SAN.
Something about owning a rifle that was built by the same group known for their precision watchmaking skills appeals to me.

The swiss didn't make the SIG 542, they were made across the border in France. Same place the p38's were made. That way they could get around the swiss export restrictions on the 542. Most of the 542's went to French allies under government aid programs.
I REALLY don't dig the skeleton buttstock that is/will be currently available on the FAMAE 542 (which is the same as on the 540). I much prefer the SAN folding stock.
I recall some pictures in the SAPR thread that showed the rifle with a quad rail instead of the standard plastic forehand. It would be interesting to know if the same quad rail will fit the FAMAE 542.
For those a lot more in the know - are the barrels the same? Maker, production method, inner lining?
If everything is very closely the same, considering the price difference...

SG 452, provided it feeds well and is accurate enough for my needs. I won't expect MOA from a military rifle built in South America, but 2-3 inches will be required. And again, it will need to be reliable. I have a feeling it will be if it's used by the Chileans, as they're a pretty kitted out, professional military.
I am not getting a SAPR. Much too expensive and I'm not even sure we'll see them in this country.

I think if it's only a 2-3 moe gun, I might just pass honestly :/ I got a m14 for that. Wen I can get smaller then 1.5-2 moe all day with 50 cent per round norinco in my RFB...
But being a rotating bolt it does have the potential to be very accurate I hope? What are your opinions guy's? .75-1.5 moe?

I can completely understand that. But for me, I don't do super accurate target shooting a lot, I'm more of a plinker and if I can hit water bottles out to 300 or so with the FAMAE, I'm happy.
I am planning on acquiring a bolt gun for really precise work, but I still love more informal shooting. I also have been into these Sig rifles for as long as I can remember, so it won't just be a shooter for me. It's one of my few dream rifles that isn't prohibited, and based on looks alone will adequately scratch the FN/G3 itch I've had since...forever. But of course, it has to be functional and be able to hit the broad side of a barn, too.
