Tavor owners: Interesting mag issue

So the mag on the right is a USGI mage that came with my Tavor, see how it's actually rounder at the top near the feed lips. The other mag is a stanag ar15 mag, but see how its more straight line angled at the top, should I file this mag down to the same as the usgi mag?

I know TVpresspass had a huge issue with mags that possibly damaged his bolt, so i'm really scared this might do the same?

iwi themselves said all standard usgi/stanag mags work just fine in the tavor... the supposed issues with the pmags are another story that I wont comment on.. except to say that the "supposed" pmag issue was due to the "V" shape instead of the box shape as seen in standard usgi mags...
 
Yah no that mag is shiat, for some reason I also cannot put it in while the bolt is closed, it just wont lock it. When the bolt is in battery though it locks in just fine. Probably due to the pin being in front as opposed to being on the side like the mag that came with the Tavor. I'm going to have to return it.

I noticed that the mag that came with the Tavor just barely locks in when I put it in, must be some very tight tolerances for the mag catch to not lock in with the other mag.

The reason your mags won't lock on a closed bolt is because they are pinned just a bit too tight. This is a common problem on the Tavor as the bolt carrier sits lower, and presses the rounds down more than on other rifles that use STANAG magazines. Drill out the rivert, disassemble your mag, shave a bit off the follower where it contacts the rivet, and reassemble. Or you could keep whining about "jerk salespeople".

I have a few magazines that are very tight or too tight to insert on a closed bolt. Know what I do? I open the bolt.

Yah you're right with 4 rounds it's fine. Will have to file it down. Had the same issue on some of my sig p226 magazines with 10 rounds in.

I know I'm a baby. I just have high expectations of quality.
 
My LMT AR has exactly the same issue. Mag won't seat with a full mag, unless the mag is pinned to 5.5 or 5.75 rounds. Shave the follower down as suggested - it works. I don't know why so many firms pin their mags so tight!?
 
This drives me crazy. I even have mags from the same manufacturer but purchased at different times that are pinned differently. Tight riveting turns good mags into problem mags.

This (emphasis mine), and why you ideally want magazines pinned to 5.5 or 10.5 rounds. This is a common issue with any black rifle (not exclusive to Tavors).

Tiny little fingers are probably responsible for the pinning. And since there isn't much quality assurance with child labour, well...

Is the consensus that it is possible to adjust/trim follower to allow a mag to seat in a Tavor with 5 rounds? Can it be done at 5.5-5.75 rounds, or does it get too close to the evil 6 rounds before it will seat? I know it's probably a fine line, but it would be handy.

I always pin my mags to as many as possible without being able to fit in a 6th round. When testing, don't be a baby, really try to jam that 6th round in becuase lord knows the RCMP lab techs will do just that to throw you in jail.
